12th March 2010 Cheers Dave! Hazy red-amber beer. Moderate head and carbonation. Toffee nose, smooth silky palate. Rich bitterish toffee, caramel and repressed sugar. Rich brandy alcohol blending well with the bitter toffee. If there is any apple here it is subtle and well buried amongst the brandy flavours. Finishes a little salty and with licorice. Delicious!

Growler… Clear, very dark, ruby ale – when held up to light – with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Malty, fruity, vinous aroma. Full-bodied and oily with tickling carbonation. The flavor is of sweet cotton candy, toffee and brandy. Sweet, boozy, warming finish. I’m not as big a fan of brandy barrel aged beers as I am of the Scotch, red wine and bourbon barrel variety.

Tap at Rattle N Hum. Amber-red pour. The nose is intensely sweet. Lots of rich sweetness with a bit of honey and some sweet vineous character. A touch of candied sort of booziness and a touch of sugary sweetness. There is a little bit of spiciness as well. The sweetness gets a little bit cloying and comes across as a bit underattenuated.

Does it really matter what I write about this? I mean I have been proclaimed a homer and not really a fair CCB rater. Well this shit is good as fuck. Tons better than the original. One of the better BA beers CCB has ever made. Delicious. The calvados barrel really does wonders. Thanks to snojerk for this one.
