Growler from the brewery that the crew shared at tpd975’s throwdown. Pours old ale brown with an off-white head. Nose is toffee, malt, brown sugar, an earthy berry-ness, and some heat. Flavor is very similar with some up front berry-ness making this one different than its other treatments. Finishes with berry flavor. Nice twist on a great beer.

Pours deep amber with copper hues and thin tan head. The aroma is very sweet with dark fruitiness coming from berries, sweet currants, cherries, plums, prunes and a modest berry skin earthiness. The taste I sweet and smooth with all the notes noted in the nose. The dark fruitiness blends smoothly into modest citrus candy notes, berry notes and a modest background to earthiness.

Growler from the brewery. Brought to a tasting. Very interesting- yummy. Sort of a barleywine kicked down a notch. Pours a clear deep ruby with a huge yellow head that has excellent retention and lacing. Aroma is toffee, caramel, rambutan, lychee. Yum. Taste is spicy hops, caramel, toffee, loses the Southeast Asian notes. Thick, full bodied. Not as creamy on the palate as say Founders Old Curmudgeon. But still very good.

Bottle… Cloudy orange/ruby ale with a small, creamy, khaki head. The bouquet is a unique blend of American hops, caramel, candied apple and tropical fruit. Medium to full-bodied with prickly carbonation. The flavor is all about sweet toffee and tropical fruit. Sweet, lightly acidic, mildly bitter finish. Bottle courtesy of Degarth!

Growler. Pours dark reddish brown, not so much lacing and a small head. Smells of a mix of fruits, and some American hops. Flavor is that wonderful mix of the old ale with the taste of melon and kiwi hitting all over the place, and a small dose of hops. I love what the dragon fruit did for the beer this is a must have on my list for sure.

Gowler courtesy of Degarth. Poured a deep redish brown with a thin off white head. Nose is fruity with notes of caramel, toffee, spice, booze and brown sugar. Medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is sweet with a unrecognizable fruit flavor Dragon Fruit I guess, note of caramel, mild cherry, and toffee. Finishes with sweet malt.

Wonderful reddish pour. Fruity and sweet aroma with toffee, fruit, light hops. This one is sweet and not so hoppy. Light tartness, caramel, Brien sugar and unique fruitiness. Very interesting

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2010 Served at NoHo Bistro Beer Dinner. A: Pours a reddish hue with tones of pink showing through. Really looks nice in the glass. Nice tight creamy head and some light lace. S: Nice sweet fruity aroma. Light caramel and toffee as well. T: The standard brew has a big citric hop component. The fruit really killed the hops turning this into a totally different beer. Lots of sweet fruit. Apples and pears. Hints of light sweet cherry. Nice bold fruity and malty sweetness. M: Medium, smooth, tasty. D: Good
