~25ml portion of a 2013/14 bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Pours a murky dark brown, leaving hardly a trace of sediment in the bottle. Aroma: sweet and roasted grains, alcohol esters, cooked peaches and other fruits. Flavor: sweet, bordering on too sweet, with plenty of soft and dark fruits, some alcohol esters, dark bread, and hints of toffee, chocolate and brown sugar. O: Distinct, complex and interesting. ABV partly hidden.

Brown pour with an off-white head. The nose on this one is amazing, notes of fig, molasses, brandy, and some citrus character. Flavor is big malt background with lots of dark fruits. Slightly warming finish from the abv but hey it’s called Winter Warmer that’s to be expected. Very good!

Pours a light brown. Off white head holds strong. Aroma of French toast, crackers and peach. Taste like a cherry tootsie pop with a carmel/molasses finish. Finishes slightly sweet.

2011/2012 Bottle. Aromas of figs, dark fruit, sweet malt and picking up some faint olives. (Weird) The taste is all there. A quick zing up front and then a barrage of malts and sweet fruit. There is a depth in this aged version that the new does not have. Long and sweet I could sip on this all night. Definitely better with age.

Shared 750 ml. bottle, poured to snifters displaying a deep mahogany color, with a modest layer of light tan head foam, and spotty lacing. The aroma was dark fruit as plum & prune, light spice, caramel, and brown sugar sweetness. Full bodied, with a syrupy texture, low hop bitterness, and alcohol that was nicely represented, but didn’t show a lot of warmth, imo. The liquid version of a tasty plum pudding!

Pour is a dark red with a large tan head. Aroma is sweet molasses with brown sugar, spice and something like a tootsie roll. Flavor is a big caramel and molasses with loads of sugar. Finish is more sweetness, toffee and a candy apple. I don’t know if spices were used in this but it does have a cinnamon and nutmeg aspect. This was well done but way sweet. That sweetness is left on the tongue. My teeth hurt after this.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass. Moderately black appearance with almost no head. Nice complex aroma with caramel, chocolate, and general sweetness. Flavor was correspondingly complex and layered. Nice barleywine chewiness here and a good mouthfeel. As it warmed up, the sweetness became a bit much to handle. Quite boozy finish too. An excellent beer with a great core quality, but a bit rough around the edges. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
