Opaque brown, big dense tan head, incredible creamy velvety full body, perfect medium carbonation.
Aroma: tons of roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate and caramel malts, and hints of vanilla and wood and dried fruits.
Taste: sweet roasted malt, candied dark fruit, warm alcohol, sweet orange blossom hops, caramel, vanilla, wood, and just an occassional hint of charred malt.
Wow! Sweet but incredible flavor, texture, and complexity. I should be sipping, but i can’t.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 pressboxjoe (184) - , New Jersey, USA - JAN 29, 2010
Nice and dark and rich - looks like its name. Rich tan bubbly head descends to a ring that stays. Strawberries, vanilla and bourbon barrels, chocolate, floral notes, alcohol. First sip is silky, enveloping, substantial. Bitter, sweet, complex. Smell the hops more now. Quite sweet, a little sour, lemon, grassy. Some roasty toasty malts now. Lacing in small round patches of bubbles, surface still a swirl of clouds. Orange aromas now, and back to vanilla. This is one of the smoothest, velvetiest beers I’ve ever had.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 stimulus (86) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 19, 2010
smells of chocolate, alcohol, toffee. pours a hazy brown, frothy, leaving lacing along the glass. chocolate and toffee dominate the palate, and the alcohol is nearly nonexistant. doesn’t taste like 10%. i’ll easily be able to finish the 750 mL bottle.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 adam42381 (331) - Fort Myers, Florida, USA - FEB 7, 2011
Poured from a 750ml bottle (purchased at CCB on 1/9/11) into a Cigar City snifter.
Appearance: Pours a dark cola brown with a 2 finger creamy tan head with small bubbles floating on top. Excellent lacing.
Smell: Floral hops, cocoa, roasted malt and a hint of alcohol.
Taste: The flavor is extremely complex and well balanced. The main flavors I’m finding are sweet dried fruits up front followed by molasses and brown sugar in the middle and ending with just a touch of hoppy bitterness at the finish. The aftertaste is a mix of bitter and syrupy sweetness. The alcohol doesn’t come through in the flavor, but you feel it warming up in your chest on the way down. This is one of the best tasting beers I’ve ever had.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with just the right amount of carbonation. Very thick and creamy. Goes down quite smooth.
Drinkability: Excellent drinkability. Obviously this is a sipper, but I’m not wanting to stop after my 8 ounce pour. This could easily sneak up on you because it’s hard to put the glass down.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. There is really nothing negative I can say about Warmer Winter Winter Warmer. Perfect for a cold evening (or a 77 degree afternoon like today in southwest Florida). If you see it, try it. It’s that good. Once again, Cigar City does not disappoint.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 PorterPounder (4109) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 4, 2011
Tallahassee, Fl - Liquor Loft - 750 ml bottle. Dark crimson brown, slightly murky pour with a sticky mocha colored head. Sweet aroma, some pipe tobacco, molasses, hint of chocolate. Flavor is delectable with some milk chocolate, baked brown bread, molasses, dates, raisins....a cornucopia of flavor - all melded together well. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Excellent - best I have had from Cigar City.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 DocLock (5970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 11, 2010
Bottle (then a case) from Frank Smith 4Q 09. At the time, this was only my 3rd CC beer, after quaffing Jai Alai and Maduro Brown in Tampa during 2Q 09 while working in St. Pete. Pours dark brown w 2f clingy off white head and great lace. Nose is huge resiny hops, caramel malt, spice, choc. Nose is a lot like Alpha Klaus. Tastes caramel malty, with heavy resiny hops, caramel malt, choc, spice. Very rich and complex palate, and an absolutely wonderful beer in winter or any other season.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 kabsetter (40) - Tampa, Florida, USA - DEC 13, 2011
Rating the 2011-2012 pint bottle. Yes its sweet, so not for all, but for me its decadent and truly wows me. A treat to sip, a great speciatly barley wine. So good, im adding it to my stock and have one in the fridge for tomorrow.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 IPAsavedMYlife (294) - St. Petersburg, Florida, USA - FEB 1, 2011
Smells of alcohol, yeast, caramel, and a good amount of hops. Carbonation is beautiful and thick. A tannish brown color with lots of flavor. Color of the body is a very dark stout color. Mouthfeel is good and smooth, not too light. Taste has plenty of variety... chocolate, hops, nutmeg. Kind of reminds me of pancakes. Finishes slightly hoppy with plenty of coffee flavor with lots of honey and toffee notes. The only downside to this beer is that it’s too rich.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ratman197 (5928) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - MAY 3, 2012
750 ml bottle courtesy of Craftbeerdesign (thanks Geoff!)poured on a 80 degree day to resemble Florida (could’nt find a way to raise the humidity). Poured a clear reddish brown with garnet highlights and a lasting amber head. Aromas of toffee, burnt carmel, prune, raisin, , earthiness, light citrus and light cocoa. Palate was full bodied and crisp with a smooth warming finish. Flavors of toffee, burnt carmel, prune, raisin and dark chocolate with a smooth warming lingering fruity chocolate finish. I’d drink this one again any day!!!
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BrotherGrendel (777) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 22, 2009
Mmmmmm, my first ever CCB beer! As a hometown FL boy, I am excited to see what all the buzz has been about this brewery (especially now that San Diego has calibrated my palate). Pours a dense brown hue with a huge layer of tan foam that persists with sticky lacing. Nose is spices, big bread and caramel malts, some brown sugar in for good measure. Flavor starts with chocolate and toffee before transitioning to citrus flavors a la a chocolate orange (yum!), bready malts, caramel, and winter spices round out the middle without being cloying and finishes with a chocolate sweet finish with hints of resin. Full body, thick texture, medium carbonation. Just wow, what an amazing winter ale, the old ale base provides a hefty malt and alcohol foundation upon which citrus hops and cocoa-toffee malts are heaped, this beer stays well-balanced throughout and the 10%abv is well-masked.... I believe the hype, now who can hook me up with Hunahpa and more CCB!?!?!
