COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

Cloudy orange gold, off white persistent head. Nice and sweet and then the jai alai hops come but subdued by the oak. You can taste the hint of vanilla there. Then the finish is drier. Great variation on a wonderful theme. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fresh can from the brewery. Interesting take on the straight Jai Alai. A little more reserved/restrained but still some nice pine resin and grapefruit pith to it with some lingering bitterness. Not quite as heavy as the standard Jai Alai too. Tasty.

12 oz can from Cigar City. Pours dark copper golden with thin white head. Notably darker than standard Jai Alai. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, oak comes on mid-palate - substantial dry and oaky notes, even more so than the original, which has oaky notes itself. Hops are floral and decidedly on the back. Taste is similar - the dry oak notes are strong but not overwhelming, though they do meld with and somewhat mute the heavy hops of the original. A fun drinker, definitely worth trying, but doesn’t measure up to the non-oak aged as an IPA.

Can from trade. Thanks Jason. Aroma: I’m not gonna lie. I read the deScription of the beer and it indeed smells dill and vanilla. This is quite oaky and citrusy. App: hazy copper, medium white head, great lacing. Taste and palate: medium body, woody, soft carbonation, light sweetness, light short bitter finish. Overall: pretty good. Really nice integration of the wine barrel. Damn. That aroma is amazing! Really well made.

Keg at Craft Covent Garden. Aroma is great, oaky, cheesy, gooseberry, fruity, berries. Taste is great too. Had the citrus IPA thing happening, but the finish is almost saison like. Lots of wood, herbal, berries and yoghurt. Great stuff

A 12 fl oz can with a canned on date of 17th November 2015 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It poured a clear golden orange colour with a two finger white head with lots of stringy lacing. Aromas of tropical mango, pineapple and peach with some citrus grapefruit followed by hints of vanilla and dill. Taste is strong vanilla and oak upfront with mango and peach supporting and hints of grapefruit. Dry, medium bodied with light carbonation. I have not tried the original base IPA yet as I haven’t been able to get my hands on any. However, although this is not the first barrel aged IPA that I’ve tried, I haven’t tasted any beer like this one before. The tropical fruit taste mixed with vanilla was interesting and a refreshing change.

Oct 2015 - Keg at Route CBC event, Clapham as ’Cigar City Jai Alai White Oak’. Hazy orange, still, foamy orange-hued head. Aroma is tangerine, buttery oak, lightly floral. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is grape juice, elderflower, lightly floral, soft woody notes. Very tasty. Good.

Poured from a can dated 11/17/2015. Aroma is interesting with some light caramel notes as well as cracker and biscuit. Some light oak notes. Quite a bit of stone fruit with some spicy hop resin as well. Pours a slightly hazy, bright copper color with some orange hues and a medium sized, moderately thick, white head that recedes to a thin film that lingers. Medium lacing and small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a moderate oak note. Some light caramel, biscuit and cracker malt notes. Moderately strong bitterness that lingers into the finish. Moderate hop notes with a spicy note as well as some grapefruit and pine resin. Medium light stone fruit notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, an interesting IPA and I think the darker malt profile works well with the oak,but its definitely not my favorite beer. Hops are a bit muted as well and there are quite a bit of stone fruit esters from the yeast.
