COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

Once again thanks to tastybeer for the southern surprise. Another twist on Jai Alai works well. The white oak here doesn’t overwhelm the base beer; in fact it works to improve an already world class product.

Aroma / Appearance - Idle carbonation takes it time escaping the confines of the shaker glass. A bronze base is warm and inviting. White pine, orange glo, and polished maple remind me of a Christmas tree lot in December. Background aspects of mango and pineapple add even more depth.

Flavor / Palate - A warmth from roses, wood, and orange jam provides a welcoming start. Transitioning to a robust vanilla center it tastes a bit like cream cheese. The bitter finish warms the throat and fills the stomach. I could see drinking a bottle or two and calling it a night after a day at work.

4 oz draft pour at ChurchKey during their Sierra Nevada Beer Camp event. Clear golden brown with off-white head. Aromas of oak, citrus, stone fruit, tropical fruit. Tastes of oak, citrus, light vanilla. Medium body with a dry finish. Much prefer regular Jai Alai.

Another barrel aled pale ale. You can imagine how thrilled I am. Too much oak, as can be expected, and plenty of stale hops as a result. Barrel brings boozy aroma, and some wooden bitterness. Pours orange with good head and lacing. Tap at Churchkey, thanks to gendv138 for a taste.

Well this was a big letdown to regular Jai Alai. Can was dated and of May so possibly this is why. Pours a hazy dark orange/amber and had a ton of white particles in it. Aroma is very sweet malts and some bitter citrus fruits. Taste is woody, malty, and overly sweet. There was some hops present in the taste, but I think this was a bit old. I had a tough time finishing, but I did. Def prefer the regular to this one but would love to try both side by side when fully fresh.

Pours medium in color with a foamy head from a can. Love the barrel aged flavor as it compliments the hops. Very refreshing in taste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The White Oak adds a great sweetish flavor with true hints of Vanilla. So smooth. This really adds to the already great Jai Alai. Somewhat sweeter that the original and not near as bitter. One of the best IPA's I've ever had. Can't wait to get my hands on this one again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a very rich hazy dark orange colour and much darker than the regular version. Smell is vanilla toasted coconut and smooth sweetness. Taste is definitely a bit of the oak dryness and some of the vanilla flavors from the oak along with a light toasted coconuty flavor but it’s not too sweet like some of the other oak aged IPA’s. Still has a nice hop presence. Smooth slightly sweet but okie dryness and enough hops to balance and make it very drinkable. Very nice. Rich creamy mail still with soft but lightly prickly carbonation.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2014 Cigar City gets endless use out of Jai Alai, aging it on everything and adding every possible ingredient or so it would seem. This variant in particular is pretty darn good and aged to the point where I don’t feel like it is really an IPA anymore at all. It pours a nice cloudy orange w/ a thick, foamy and long lasting head. The commercial description claims that the white oak adds vanilla and a bit of dill. I think they are right on the vanilla bit it is more of a black pepper thing than dill to me, at least in the nose. Some sweetness really makes that vanilla pop and w/ the hint of citrus from the hops, it gives a strong impression of oranges and cream. This is a full bodied beer and along w/ fine, mild carbonation leads to a pleasantly creamy feeling beer. Finish is pretty quick but there is a bit of vanilla and black pepper reminiscent of the nose. It’s a bit funny to me but the thing that I don’t exactly like about Jai Alai is its sweetness but that is exactly what makes it work aged on oak. Hey, maybe it’s a good thing Cigar City works this brew from every angle.

Wish this beer was easier to get. Always a great drink. The oak and citrus are the stars of the show. Nice smooth beer and great finish.
