2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAY 17, 2005 A funky acid membrane envelops the pine air-freshener...Woody notes inflict their severity to the astringent fruit ruckus...Alcohol and caramel try to create some order in the barley wine foundation but somewhat fail...This is one nervous schizo of a beer...3.4/5
Second tasting, a year later...The schizo symptoms have fully bloomed, and we now have a purulent pickle vinegar...Cedar and maple syrup are interesting, but green olives and varnish point again to that gut-turning pickle juice...And the alcohol burns underneath...Ugh...1.5/5

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Biscuits, raisins, caramel, and a fair amount of alcohol in the aroma. Malty and somewhat sweet flavor. Drying alcohol and a little smoke in a somewhat harsh finish. I’ve really liked most of Cisco’s big beers. This was decent but a little disappointing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22oz bottle 11/1/13 (Binny’s Naperville)-50° in Snifter-Pours murky brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted caramel, dried fruit, malt, and fruity. Taste of the same with a bit of alcohol along with more sweetness. This full bodied brew is not bad but a bit weaker than other BW’s I have had.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Capones .Pours a hazy deep brownish amber color with a thick, creamy, lasting, tan head. Aroma is very malty, fruity with loads of esters and alcohol. Taste is malty, but not really sweet, with toasty bread, hints of caramel, candied-fruit cake and pineapple. Loads of alcohol warmth. Full bodied with too much carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Somewhat of a more clear orange amber color, made hazy with lots of fine particles in the body. Thin off-white head with good retention. Loose ropes of lace. Orange and pepper in the nose. Light caramel malt. Bigger body. Smooth, soft carbonation. Lightly dry texture. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Light bit of alcohol heat in the finish, but it’s not bad for 12%. Good spicy, hoppy flavor. Some red fruit, light caramel malt, burnt sugars. Tasty, complex, more bitter and assertive barleywine.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
It glug glugs out of the high shoulder 750mL bottle pouring with a clear amber to copper body that supports a two minute long dirty white head. The aroma offers up plums and smooth muted sweet cherries covered in a sweet syrup with a bit of vague pine like hops in the background. At the end of the draw is the expected bit of boozy heat to the nose. The taste is smooth and largely sweet with dark fruity esters. I get plum juice, cherries and dates with thin ribbons of sweet malts and molasses. This is a really nice smooth sipper.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle poured an orange amber color with a thin cap of white had that fell right off. Aroma has sticky malt, aged hops, perfume, caramel, and some oxidation. Mouth feel is medium and the carbonation medium low. Flavor is again rich on the malt, perfume, some sweetness, oxidized hops, and a smack of heat.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draught. This is not the best of the barley wines out there. But if you are at Logan this is the best BW in the airport.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle is about a year old.
Aroma is fairly fruity with a bit of lighter caramel malt notes.
Pours light brown with a bit of burn amber. Persistent, thin light tan head with minimum slaving and medium sized legs.
Flavor is good with some decent caramel character, but not as complex as others. Light caramel, some light earthy hop notes, and dried fruit. Bitterness is moderately strong. Alcohol is faint in the flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Medium low astringency with low alcohol warmth.
Overall a good beer, but not a great beer. The complexity is a bit small, but the caramel is nice and clean.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark orange pour, little bit of carbonation and a lot of lasting lacing cardboardy hops and sweet prunes. Flavor is boozy sweet caramel, prunes, and a little nutty and slightly sweet on the finish (decently balanced at 12%). Not too bad for a $10 barleywine bomber.
