COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Very Brown is a, well, very brown india pale. This tawny-hipped, rocky-headed ale flirts with whirling dank hop aroma, cocoa, and toffee. A medium-light body progressively delivers piney hop bitterness and orange hiding behind the curtain of bittersweet chocolate. This beer is seriously dry. If you want the assertive hop aroma in this beer you need to drink it right away. Do not age hoppy beers and hope to find beautiful hop character in them. There are a lot of hops in this beer, please drink it young. If somehow it slips your mind and you find an old bottle in your cellar the malt character will shine through the muted hoppiness.

Not quite a black IPA> nearly 2 fingers of head and a brown pour. more malt in the aroma than anything - carame and toffee. Caramel Toffee, slight hopping up front. Slight hints of chewing tobacco (?!?!?!) Body is a bit lighter than I’d like. Wouldn’t mind revisiting.

Very brown bodied, with big 3/8" bubbly head.Americo’s bottle. Hoppy aroma. Malty mostly. Odd to put as black IPA, just a hoppy American brown.

Bottle. Pours a deep caramel hued brown with a large beige to pale tan head. Big earthy hops on the nose, spicy citrus and a touch of pine. Some malt, and just a bit of age apparent as well, though that’s probably my own fault as I sort of forgot I bought this for a couple months. Big roast, a bit of malt. Empties out a bit, and some more hints of age, but there’s still a nice amount of roasted malt backbone coming through. Long pungent bitterness on the finish. Solid enough.

22-MAR-2012, bottle @Papsø. Very dark brown with high lasting beige head. Roasted and hoppy nose. Peppery, roasted, hoppy nose. Spices - star anise? - like an X-mas brew. Raw hops finish the taste.

Deep dark copper coloured body with a fainter brown glow when held up to a light and a dense, four centimetre tall head atop that stays fairly nicely. Aroma of fresh citrus and grapefruity hops with a touch of resin, some good sweetness, a bit of earth and some yeast noticeable. Medium-bodied; Grassy, herbal hop character at first with a very silky feel and a tiny touch of malt noticeable at the end. Aftertaste, slightly more roasted malt showing through with a bit of earth, a tiny amount of nuts and more grassy, floral and herbal hop characteristics. Overall, a relatively light and one-dimensional black ipa with some good qualities, but not strong enough to stand on its own as a great beer. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 11-March-2012 for US$9.95 sampled at home in Washington on 23-March-2012.

Bottled. A hazy dark brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, vanilla, hops, chocolate, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, raw hops, cocoa, vanilla, and malt, leading to a raw bitter finish.
