COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flemish-style red diverted into used rye whiskey barrels; 100% wood fermentation. 13 Months in used American oak rye whisky barrels with proprietary blend of micro flora have created a brilliant deep ruby/burgundy beer. Nose of cherries, vanilla, and whisky. No Fruit Used. Tastes a bit like toasted rhubarb berry cobbler. Allusions of fruit sweetness from the brettanomyces balance the slight tang of bacteria.

Bottle at Papsø tasting. Pours hazy amber with a tan head. The aroma is grape, oak and a bit of sweet fruit/berries. Flavour is dry grape, sweet berries, light balsamic and wood. Nicely balanced.

This might be my favorite of the woods series. Reminds me a lot of Rodenbach Grand Cru. Aroma is cherries, vanilla, light wiskey. Taste is cherry tartness with very subtle barrel notes and a nice malt profile that shines through a little at the end. Good stuff even though its really expensive.

750, the personal favorite of the beer buyer at Yankee spirits Swansea. Very tasty flemish red. Wood vanilla characteristics but not much from the whiskey. Tasty stuff

I don’t remember where this one came from but now that I tried it I almost wish I had a few more in the series. Regardless I have enough other American sours to keep my palate busy for the foreseeable future. Eventually I will get around to more Cisco beers as I run across them.

Aroma / Appearance - The mostly opaque rye colored body was darker than I imagined. Glowing with life the red fringe provides life. Spindly legs indicate some alcoholic presence. Caramel brownies, sweet tarts, rye crackers, and a strong Flemish bite result in a beer that is not mild mannered. While not as sour as a true lambic it has that great Flemish bite you would expect from a solid wild ale.

Flavor / Palate - Tart and dry flavors hit the tongue within milliseconds of the first sip. Acidic with an oak finish the texture reminds me of a true Flemish brown. Balanced with a number of flavors to focus on this beer might not be for everyone. However I wouldn’t mind trying another to compare the different versions of Woods out there.

Muddy river water combined with a rusty penny pour produced a small eggshell head that left only a ring and spot. Aroma shows caramel, tart cherry skin, slight vanilla bean, and oak. Lots of vinegar, rye. and cracked pepper in the finish. Moderate, if not light mouthfeel. Missing complexity, thickness, and depth of flavor.

750ml into a tulip glass. The cork was seized in and took a great deal of effort to release. A - Dark brown/ruby body. Off-white foamy head with thin lacing. Looks pretty typical of a flanders red. S - Cherries, vinegar, oak, vanilla and some rye spice. Fairly subdued and light, and actually not very pleasant. Its not funky, it just smells like a mess of aromas. T - Wow! The flavor starts off with tart cherries and acidic vinegar. The finish is this fantastic smooth mixture of oak, whiskey, and spicy rye. It really works well with the tart fruity body. Medium mouth feel with a high level of carbonation. O - Not my favorite of the woods series. The flavor profile is really interesting though. I think the rye whiskey barrels really compliment the base beer. Definitely worth a try.

The appearance was an amber color with a white head. The aroma contained vinegar, caramel, some brown sugar, and a woody presence. The flavor is sour with vinegar, rye, vanilla, and oak. Complex but a little weird also. Overall this was pretty good.

Coppery brown, not much head. Smells nice - lemony, some toasty notes. Flavor is citrus, a touch of vinegar, some toast, some vanilla. Enjoyable.

Sample at a tasting at Suttree’s. Pours red-orange with beige head. The aroma is fruity sourness with some barnyard funk and some white raisin. The flavor is subtle maltiness with a faint sour edge and a woody finish, maybe some pepper. The aftertaste is a bit sticky. Interesting.

Pours prune brown with medium, creamy head. Aroma of citrus fruit, oak, and heavy brett. Big wood and whiskey. Flavor of tart cherry and blackberry, oak, sourness, and herbal tea. Very sour, crisp, and refreshing.
