Aroma is medium sweet, juicy grapefruit, some pineapple, orange, light melon. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit with moderate sharpness, floral/orange, light caramel. Medium body, some creaminess, chewiness, light acidity. (8/3/7/4/15)
(12/8/07, 750ml bottle, thanks Stine) Enormous off-white head that fades to a nice lacing, atop cloudy amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, juicy grapefruit, some orange, cantaloupe. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit, some orange. Medium body, some effervescence, light acidity, chewy. (8/3/7/4/15) hopdog (4645), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 11, 2007 750ml bottle. Poured a medium and hazy orangish color with a larger sized off white head. Lacing left on the glass. Aromas of floral green hoppiness, citrus, pine, and earthy. Tastes of citrus, caramel, and earthy. All around ’skunky’ hoppiness. MartinT (4373), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 10, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Apricot fruitiness blooms from a wooden, sandy hop presence, as lightly caramelized cereal sweetness manages to form balance in this amenable and unpretentious India Pale Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam decorates the clear orange bronze.
-That Summit hoppiness is somewhat redolent of Simcoe in the nose.
-Oranges also stream from the fruity hoppiness.
-This is highly drinkable and rather different from other American-style IPA.
Bottle. acrdz (4362), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 23, 2007 750ml. Unfiltered and hazy orange colored body with a film of a head. Playing the word association game, the first thought on the nose was metallic, as in tinny, metallic hop scents, reminds me of how your hands smell after counting out pennies, only with some citrus/orange notes as well. Flavor not too different, with a metallic sweet orange flavor dominating, and a light, yeast (pasty and minimally lactic) presence. Finishes wet and moderately bitter, with a bready, crusty flavor, and overall I think if it’s entirely Summit hops then I either don’t like Summit hops (the hops seem stale, as do the fruit notes) or this is just a poorly made IPA... though most poorly made IPAs are still good because, well, hops are delicious... so, ultimately I think this beer lacks character, but it’s not terrible. tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jun 23, 2008 Toasted malts meld nicely with apricot and grapefruit in the nose. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a decent and lasting fine bubbled off white head. Nice caramel and toasted malt flavour provides a solid base for grapefruit, orange and resinous pine hop flavours. Bitterness is pronounced but balances well with the malt sweetness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Bottle sampled at a tasting chez MartinT after the qualifying session for Grand Prix 2008.
