3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
From notes. First reviewed 9/20/2011. Poured from a 750 mL caged and corked bottle into a tulip.
Monomoy Kriek has a fairly clear cranberry color; it has a faded look to it. Soft off white lace remains from a small head.
Sour cherry and just a little bit of funk create the aroma.
The flavor starts off with a little bit of maraschino cherry sweetness, but the flavor quickly turns sour. Just the slightest bit of barnyard funk at the end.
This is tart and sour enough to get my lips to pucker. It is fairly acidic, with a light to medium carbonation wrapped up in a medium body.
This was good although it lacked the complexity to bring it into the same category of some of the great Krieks.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, shared with GT2. Pour is murkey red with a good off-white head, good retention/some lace. Aroma of orange sherbet, cherry, funk, vanilla. Taste is moderately sour, cherry, lightly acetic, citrus. Palate is lighter, soft, creamy, sour finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750mL thanks to a generous trader on BA. Pours a clear deeper garnet with a medium, tan (?) head. Quick retention. Nose is sweet maraschino cherry with mild acetic sourness. Juicy and dessert like- baked cherry pie. Taste is tangy, herbal, not really acetic, mildly sour, decently tart. Palate is thin, hibiscus tea like, quite refreshing. Long, pretty mouth puckering finish with no acetobacter heat. Quite nice. In between a heavy dessert kriek and very light, tangy, refreshing kriek. Well done as always from these brewers. Stick to sours!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In short: A very tart cherry beer. Very good even if a bit too vinegary
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed when
The look: Burgundy body topped by a pink ring of foam
In long: Nose is mostly tart cherries and red wine barrels. Iím pretty certain that no red-wine barrels were used for this beer but it really smelled like vinous oak. Taste has plenty of cherries upfront with a character that is somewhere between tart cherries and maraschino cherries. Lacto funk and acidity, oak. Very acidic and tart and unfortunately also some vinegar. Full juicy body with a smooth carbonation. Lots of good things in this beer, overall I liked it, but it is a bit too vinegary for me to rate it as excellent. At around $20 the price-tag can be a turn-off but I personally donít care, Iím gonna party like its $19.99!!!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle: The aroma consists of lots of cherry (sweet and tart) along with a touch of vanilla. It pours a transparent brownish-orange with a minimal off-white head that quickly fades to a ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of sweet cherry. The finish turns to tart cherry, sour lemon, cinnamon, and vanilla.

750ml bottle split at DC tasting..thanks Gene! Murky red-brown. Thin non-head laces the glass. Cloyingly sour. Light oak. Solid natural cherry taste. Well balanced for a sour, not test tuby, with a thick juicy undertone. Right on.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark chestnut pour with some crimson and garnet highlights sparkling in the body. Small eggshell head. Aroma of tart cherry and plum skin, slight vanilla and oak, and an abundance of cinnamon-dipped apples. This one was reminiscent of Selinís Grove Phoenix Kriek but with a lot more pucker. Kind of a balsamic quality in there as well. Tasty.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle, from Lukeís Liquors, 10/04/11. Good aroma, sour. Tart. Fruity. Cherry, grape, oak. Clean brownish orange color, small head, no lace 1st pour, better head, that faded quick, still no lace 2 pour. Sour flavor. Light body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, tart finish. Good brew, pretty tasty. just a tad short of being great. still good to sniff and taste....bit pricey, like 23 bucks, for the bottle, but thatís the path Iíve chosen....

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Medium red-brown body, pinkish-white one cm head. Quickly receded, spotty lacing.
S: Tart cherries, earthy-oak, some vinous notes.
T: Like the nose, there is a bit of oak and vinous notes, but the cherries have taken a serious step back. Tartness is still there, but the depth of flavor is muted.
M: A bit thin and under-carbonated. Not particularly enjoyable.
O: While the nose and taste were respectable the weak body made drinking this somewhat of a chore.
