COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This craft-brewed porter is made in very small batches right here on Nantucket. It is unfiltered and bottle-conditioned to ensure the freshest possible taste. Our porter is made with a blend of roasted barley, black patent, and chocolate malt for a smooth, chocolatey finish that goes famously well with oysters. Serve slightly chilled.

Initial pour, 1’ of beer and 5’ of foam. Tiny, tight bubbles streaming up the sides of the glass. Deep brown to near black color with, as time progressed, a thick pour. Tightly aligned bubbles made up the body of this at first huge head yet the surface was pillowy soft in texture. Heavily roasted aroma with a whisking of bread and stronger notes of chocolate. Flavors touch on deep roasted coffee, cocoa and dark fruits. Aside of the obvious cascade of carbonation this is perfection. Thanks to VENOM for this very special brew!

This is my dream beer: Dark, malty, strong hop presence, high ABV, wonderful burnt grain nose and flavor, hearty and a true old style porter from days long before ’Light’/’Lite’ was even imagined. Malt at the start somewhat sweet, the middle a blend of hop spiciness and the toasted grains, the finish hop bitter and pleasently dry. Love porter a must, sorry it is probably a real hard beer to find outside the East Coast. Thanks to a trade with a fellow beer lover I had the pleasure, a new top ten porter on my master list. Borders on being a ’Stout’ to my nose and palate, what a treat.

Has a very dark brown color with some carbonation and a thick tan head. Smell is of roasted malts. Taste is of the roasted malts/bittersweet chocolate and finishes with a great roasted bitterness. Overall a great porter that is somewhat local...

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2006 2003 bottle. Aged some 16+ months. I opened this one and let it breath a good 8 hours before decanting. I really feel this helped. Pours a lovely transluscent oily brown. Lots of olive-brown tinges, light mahogany tones and some dark oak colors swirling around. Bottle conditioned, good off-white head and lacing. Aroma of light roast coffee, hints of chocolate and plenty of yeast! Flavor at first had me hating this beer, but I stuck with it and it became exceptionally unique. It starts out with a huge yeastiness that combines with the rich roastiness to really knock you back. Only a touch of coffee and sweetness. The typical wininess you get from Cisco to compound the already peculiar taste and you’ve got yourself one strange beer. But as it sits and breathes and I drink more; wow, this is a real porter. Medium light body, yeastiness and mustiness of an old ale, with nuts, light tofee and only a touch of sweetness. This is one hell of an authentic English porter! Wow, after it’s evened out and your palate gets used to it, you can just drink it right down. Hints of light coffee on the finish, good roasted barley, vinousness and of course a touch of black malt, but it’s all mixed well for a wonderful vintage effect. A true porter of old with plenty pleasing complexities. This isnt just a light caramelly Stegmaier or moderately chocolatey, thin Yuengling, this stuff has tons of character and tons of flavor. Outstanding. 7/5/8/5/18
2005 bottle Yet again, a perfect poor, dark chestnut brown, with crimson and violet tinges, head retained to perpetuity, lacing and unfiltered. In fact, I let the bottle breathe overnight and the next morning, there was still head in the bottle! Aroma of prunes, vinousness, raisins, rich earthy barley soaked in Burton water. Toffee, bakers chocolate, yeast, just lovely. Flavor is more of the same, bakers chocolate, earthy yeast, baked brown bread, raisins, prunes, concord grapes, barley and coffee on the end. Medium-full body, no wateriness, natural carbonation (let it breath!). Simply stunning, I am raising my rating. 9/5/9/5/19

750ml bottle: Wow, this one isn’t highly overcarbonated like the rest of the Cisco line. Pours to a dark brown with a large tan head, showing amber when held to the light. Aroma is roasty, sweet chocolate malt, bitter dry chocolate, wood, sweet yeast, earth, light vanilla, coffee, caramel, band aid (in a good way), tree root. Medium-full bodied. Taste is dry bitter chocolate, roasted malt, sweet caramel, sour yeast, plum, peach, coffee, with a vinousness that you get from cisco, which really blends nicely with the yeast in this case. It’s got a real nice, almost old ale taste. Finishes with hints of roasted malts, licorice, and floral/citrusy hops. Wow this is nice.

Love this beer. A big, strong porter. Chocolatey, slightly burnt, but a nice balance of sweetness to keep you coming back for more. Great head on lucious dark body. Slight over carbonation was the only detraction - is this bottle conditioned?

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2004 Rerate: Full 750 to myself, thank to Mitt. A bit bitter/sour, exactly as Muzzlehatch says, but if you let it realy really watm up you can ofset some of that. Excellent and upped a tiny bit fromthe first very small sample. One of the State's truly great beers. Original: A delight. The aroma was top of the range. Slight coffee, the most amazing malt presence: A bit nut brown, a bit choc., some aromatic. Unbelievable and English in nature. Palate: Carbonated, and a tiny bit thin, but fits the style in body except for the carbo a bit. Flav: Spreads out, a tart back of the throat attack, smoky, roasty.

WOW!...a very light porter indeed. Has a very dry roasted flavor to it but not to overpowering. I can see this beer being drunk on a hot day. Has a light, weightlessness to it. Great flavor.

This beer was poured into a large tulip glass with a huge head that faded extreamly slow. it had a dark brown color to it and had the aroma of wood and mild coffee malt. As you dribnk it there was an initial woody flavor with bitter toffee on the palate. The after taste was very sweet yet mild it had the flavor of wood meets rasberry. It was kind of tart yet smooth at the same time.

Black color, big head. hints of soft chocolate in the nose, some coffee. Very nicely balanced roast and hop bitterness in the finish. Great porter, one of the best, up there with Smutty.
