COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ed. Note: Although this beer was originally an American Golden Ale, after a short period of time the brewer changed the yeast strain, and it is now a lager. This 126 calorie lager with wonderful balance and strong hop finish is unlike most light beers. Reminiscent of an IPA but smooth and easy to drink.
It is named after the famous lighthouse that has stood on a bluff on the south eastern side of Nantucket Island since 1849. Perched precariously 88 feet above the raging Atlantic Ocean, Sankaty Head Light is in danger of falling prey to beach erosion. The lighthouse is the most powerful in New England.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2008 Probabaly the best light beer I’ve ever head. This beer had some taste and a hop profile. That said, I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Pours a clouded gold with no head. Nose is subdued citrus with a grain quality to it. There isn’t much to the nose though. It is rather light. Flavor is a slight bit hoppy and a fair bit earthy. Overall kind of toned down from something that seems like it could be a whole lot more. Feel is standard stuff. Overall it is drinkable, sure. I wouldn’t say it is overly interesting, and definitely not worth the price. Nice, but not worth walking more than seven feet out of your way for.

Bottle: Very light yellow beer, but with a gigantic head of white foam. The aroma is lightly citric, yet biscuity. This drinks with a bite of corny malt, and a funky woody bite. (#3162, 10/28/2007)

12 Oz Bottle. Aroma is a gentle, light sudsy barley kernel and toasted almond. Subtle, soapy and with leaf. Pours a heavily opalescent pale gold, straw inflected, with rocky white head above. Flavor has three nice movements, first a bubbly fresh plain, clean malt, mingled with some Cascade hops and general resin and sugar. Then a faint whiff of bready yeast, doughy and creamy. Good middle body. Finishes off with a long, unexpected draw of hops, in good tones of Cascade and other west coasters. All around I was impressed by the body, drinkability and flavor of this beer. The hops are very enjoyable, the yeast character desirable and helping and the smack and body full and refreshing. Good stuff!

poured into tulip. pours a clear golden yellow with full white fluffy head. sour malt, slight hop aroma, citruss presence. full mouthfeel, light finish. smooth consistency, not much depth and thin complexity, little metalic on the front. good light sessionable but nothing extremely special going on, lacks much complexity/blance and background. probably would be much better strait out of the bottle.

(Bottle) Pours a hazy golden body with a large rocky white head. Aroma of lemon, florals, and mustiness. Flavor of floral hops and herbal tea. This beer completely took me by surprise! Lovely floral hoppiness! Quite tasty!

(Rating #1108)

Thanks to John jjpm74 for this brew, and I’m glad to have had the chance to try it. This is no way a premium lager, this stuff is tremendously higher quality than any premium lager or american pale yellos lager. It is unfiltered, provides a light brownish orange appearance that is nothing like a ubiquitous pale yellow lager. There is even some gunk on the bottom of the bottle like quality wheats! Lovely swirling pour. Looks more like a strong ale, with its creamy thin head. Taste has quite a bit of hop bitter impact, it behaves more like an ale on the palate. Even comes across a little viscous, no way is this a light beer. This is the chewiest ’light’ beer I have ever tasted. Good medium low carbonation. This beer is more like a hop flavored wheat beer than a lager. Wow, quite a taste experience. This has got to be the light beer that resembles craft beer, like no other. I’m not much one on hops or bitter malts but this certainly is not light flavored. Medium lasting light to medium bitterness on the finish.

12oz bottle. Translucent golden color with a medium sized fluffy white head. EArthy, grassy hop aromatics with lemony and appley malt characters. Acrid floral hop flavor with a very mineral element, almost metallic. Grainy malt makes an appearance, with a slight fruitiness. Metallic citrus finish with a slight acrid flower petal tone. Mouthfeel is very light.

Bottle (12oz). Via trade with Zatrhus12. Slightly hazy gold, some bubbles at first, lasting frothy/foamy white head. Aroma has light citrus, grassy hops, very soft. Taste is oddly ferric - like it’s made with hard water, canola-like grain, herbal/grassy hops, the grain seems a little sour, but not in a bad way, just ... acidic, somehow. Chewy body, on the light side, it has a hint of astirngency and very light carbonation - the finish takes its time, but isn’t all that long in the end - quite well balanced for a "light" - excuse me, "lite" beer, too good to be a lawnmower beer.
