COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Summer of Love was fun they say, but now we’re living in the SUMMER OF LAGER! "Lager" means "to wait a wicked long time until it’s ready." We brewed it in the fall, aged it all winter, then sampled it in the spring. Then again, and again, until finally we decided to share. Hope you like it.

Pretty decent summer lager, on tap at the Happy Gnome. Just a little better than a run of the mill lager but nothing special. Small white head, typical light amber color and a bitter finish. Decent carbonation.

Can. Nose pils malt, lightly sweet with lemony, sunny citrus and grassy hops with a touch of sugar - very inviting. Pours transparent yellow with avg carb and a large rocky white head. Watery light body is sweet with very low bitterness (drier and bitterer in the finish), lemony citrus extremely juicy throughout, touch of bread by the end. Has a very little bit of maltiness for balance, everything’s fresh and clean. Soft, delicate, enormously attractive.

12 ounce can. Bright honey gold color. Big rocky white head. Grassy cereal malt nose with hints of lemon citrus hops. Flavor is dry and crisp with more grassy hops and bready malt. Tart lemon peel notes in mid taste. Some cardboard funkiness in finish.

Drank it straight out if the can. Light and very approachable. Tasted good after mowing the lawn, that’s for sure.

355ml can. Was expecting a "pale lager". Definitely mroe along the lines of a czech pils especially with the honey like malt character.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2014 Aroma: Lightly honeyed malts with cereal; hops are more herbal and lightly lemony. Appearance: Royal gold, mostly transparent pour with a foamy white head that settles into a slightly sticky skin; visible carbonation is very minimal. Flavor: Herbal/ lemon character is most apparent with malts coming in a bit more midway; dries out thoroughly with some lingering semi-sweet malts. Palate: Full body, creamy texture, very soft carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: Thought this was pretty good; in the top 1% of Czech Pils? I have my doubts.

This is sort of pale ale-ish I guess. It does not really strike me as a traditional lager style at all. It is cloudy orange golden w/ a huge head and lots of sticky lace. It smells of nutty malts and fruity hops. This is a rather thick and full bodied beer w/ creamy carbonation, definitely heavy for the proclaimed style but pleasant enough. The hop character here is sort of dusty and earthy w/ a bit of resinous pine. This is not outright terrible but not at all what I was expecting.

Bottle from my sister’s trip to the US. Served in a lager glass, it is a crystal clear deep gold with a foamy off-white head. Bready light malts with a touch of lemon. A nice full bodied beer with lemon and bready light malts. A nice lager.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2014 Bottle. Overall a good representative of the lager type, well balanced. Had this with lobster.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2014 I poured a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. It was bottled on 4/2/14 and cost $2.99 ($0.25 per ounce).

Appearance: Perfectly golden hue over a crystal clear body with plenty of carbonation visible. Pours to a small, bright white, frothy head which retains and laces very well.

Smell: Grassy hops, hay, a hint of lemon peel or citrus character.

Taste: We can’t get fresh Czech and German pilsners over here, so having an American take on the style that’s fresh and available is a nice alternative, like Cisco Summer of Lager for example. This is a no frills/by-the-book pilsner and it works because it is exactly what it’s supposed to be. A tasty beer of authentic all-malt base, some mineral character, and the hops aren’t skimped on, either.

Up front there’s a light sweetness from the golden malts. Some notes of light bread, crackers, and honey. The Noble hops impart some earthy/herbal bitterness as well as a mild spicy flavor, especially through the middle. Additionally sweetness on the finish with a touch of caramel. I’m genuinely surprised and impressed by not only how good this beer is, but by how much I enjoyed it.

Drinkability: Pale lagers and pilsners have their place in the beer world, especially in the summer, and as a seasonal, Cisco Summer of Lager does exactly what it’s supposed to do. The mouthfeel is thin, crisp, wet and refreshing with a clean aftertaste. It’s almost too easy to drink as I really like to savor the nuances here. At 5.5% ABV it’s just a tad heavier than I’d prefer, though it does seem quite efficient for its weight as there’s plenty of taste here. Extremely tempting to session.

Bottle (12oz): Pours clear golden. This is a nice lager, but not my favorite type.
