COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Beyond Beer" Ten years and still brewing ....and going beyond beer with this anniversary ale. It's a blend of Baggywrinkle and Whale's Tale, matured for one year in bourbon casks with strawberries to lend a bright fruitiness and vinious complexity, then cold-conditioned another year to bring the flavors together. ...

Ah, they finally added this beer, I never added it because I didn’t know when or if they would release it. Randy the brewer poured me a sample of this a while back, very nice. Pours a glowing golden/ruby color with a thin white head. Very floral aroma with a lively strawberry nose and faint acidity. Up front it feels light on the palate, the fruit starts out nice but this lacked carbonation to keep it through the finish. There where hints of yeast, and I kept waiting for a acidic sourness to develop, but the bourbon kept it sweet and warming. Nice beer, but the bourbon and fruit kinda clashed in the finish.

Definitely a big strawberry presence, both in the nose and in the flavor. Very tart and fruity with almost a lambic thing going on. Interesting.

Sampled at GABF 2007. Reddish brown in color with a thin beige head. Earthy and oaky in the aroma. Cherries, tart apricots and rye whisky in the flavor. Very woody finish.

on tap at gabf. I tasted it hoping to enjoy the strawberries, but was greeted instead by a sharp palate, a wild yeast, and not much strawnberry flavor. Perhaps it needs to wait another year to mellow?

Thanks to Steward of Ghondor for sharing this. Nice brown color, off white head. Nose is strawberries with a touch of oak and vanilla. Cool! Flavor is slightly dissapointing, the berries are there, the wood is there, its just missing the mouthfeel the nose aluded to.

Bottle shared by StewardofGondor on 12/16/06: Pours a clear copper bronze with wispy-lacing off-white head. Complex, sweet caramel malty aroma has some fruity cherry notes. Body starts lightly sweet and full with some complex oaky bourbon notes and a smoother, slightly warming drier finish. A unique and enjoyable brew.
