2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Bontus (566) - Waasmunster, BELGIUM - JUN 24, 2011
Had this on bottle and on cans @ Malta. Pours sparkling yellow, pale golden, with a thick white head. Crispy, bit grassy but clean aroma’s. Good refreshing lager. It’s a bit sweeter than the regular one. But it’s a minor difference.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Metalchopz (1742) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 25, 2011
Originally rated September 2008. This Mediterranean brew is made for the warm climate this country has. It pours a light yellow colour with a big foamy white head, that actually stays a while and leaves lacing all over (in weird shapes of all kind). The aromas are a little malty with a slight twist of citrus. Decent carbonation composed of many small bubbles that keeps on going strong. The taste is pretty light, with some grain flavour and a metallic finish. Not much aftertaste, maybe a bit of bitterness. Refreshing for that tempature (like mentioned) and nice to try a beer from Malta, but that is about it.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 altonbrownd (4208) - Brussels, BELGIUM - OCT 6, 2010
On tap at Malta Festival outside European Parliament (Brussels). Orange body with short, fuzzy head. Quite a malty nose and toasty. Taste is quite sweet of sweetbread. Some bitterness. Not bad at all.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 JohnRMurdoch (2251) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - JUL 2, 2010
Bottle from Beers of Europe. Hoppy aroma. Cloudy golden yellow colour. Bland dry hoppy flavour. A very average lager.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 FreshHawk (596) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - MAY 14, 2010
Bottle.
A - Typical clear, golden straw color with a lot of bubbles and a large foamy, sticky white head. Pretty good retention that eventually settles into a thin sticky layer of lace.
S - Good Pilsener malt and a bit of bready aroma. A fair amount of herbal and floral hops as well. Sweet malt aroma is most dominant though; however, it doesn’t really have the vegetable, corny, adjunct smell I was somewhat expecting.
T - Starts with a touch of grainy taste. Quickly some floral and herbal hops come out. A touch of grassy hops and mineral taste comes out mid sip with the sweet malt taste in the background. Finishes with a bit of a bready taste and some grassy hops. Clean taste, but a little thin and light on flavor, especially at the beginning of the sip, as it finishes a bit stronger.
M - Light to medium body (a bit more heft than I was expecting) with a healthy amount of carbonation. Pretty crisp and just a bit of a drying finish.
D - Pretty drinkable beer. A fair amount of hops on a nice Pilsener malt base. Very refreshing and goes down easy. I would drink another if it was given to me, but it doesn’t necessarily make me want another one.
Notes: Best before July 2010. I wasn’t really sure what to expect from a lager from Malta, but I wasn’t expecting much. This was better than was I thought it may be though. Solid lager taste without a vegetable/corny/adjunct taste. The taste was a bit light and thin for me though. That said, it is an easy to drink and decent tasting beer with a fair amount of hops for the style. I don’t think I would search for it, or probably even get it again (unless it was on sale), but I would drink it again if I was offered.
