A heavy strong stout brewed with coffee, brown sugar and oats. With its powerful quality and morning ingredients it seems parallel to a solid dawn session at Blacks. An inside connection to boutique roasted fare trade beans we were granted the opportunity to make this exceptional brew.

Strong aroma of wet coffee grounds. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, tobacco, tar, a bit acrid Pours pitch black with small wispy but creamy yellowish head Strong coffee flavor balanced fairly well with roasty malts. Chocolate, ash, bread, burnt wood. Medium full bodied with low CO2, lingering burnt finish. Decent beer. I prefer dark fruity and malty Imperial Stouts compared to roasty burnt ones, so this isn't really my cup of tea or cup of coffee. Still an enjoyable sipper. Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of toasted cereal, dark chocolate and strong coffee, light resin for the hops, moderate earth for the yeast. Head is small, frothy, beige with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finishes is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. Not as bold and powerful as I like in an Imperial Stout, but it’s easy drinking quality puts it up right up there for the style.

Bottled. Poured deep brown with an easily-resuscitated toasted beige head. The aroma picked up roasted coffee and biscuity malts with a little herbal weirdness around. The flavor found burnt and lightly astringent black and coffee malts.. touches of vanilla accented.. finished smoky and a bit astringent. Medium-plus bodied and a tad sharp on the palate.. moderate carbonation.. OK stuff.

[2/13/15] Draught at Rogue Ales Public House in San Francisco. Black with a brownish head. Weird aroma with very vegetal coffee. Roasty flavor with vegetal coffee and a bitter finish. Medium to full-bodied.

Bottle sample at the tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 2/5/15. Darkest brown pour with a thick light brown head. Aroma of butter, malt, chocolate, caramel and roast. Malty and buttery flavor with chocolate and roast accents before a boozy finish.

A decent stout, but a bit boring. Pours a slightly watery black with a tan head. Smells of coffee, that's about it. Taste is again a bit watery, with lots of coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. Kind of one note.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, into nice coffee bean, espresso, almost a mocha note into a bit of cocoa powder, slight roast. Taste is a mix of cocoa powder, roast, coffee, nice dark fruit into big molasses and brown sugar, touch of spice, finishing slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Nice.

Poured a dark brown almost black color with aromas of light roasted malt, coffee, light earth and some chocolate. Flavors are coffee and bakers chocolate with some light nuts and some ash and earth. Solid and enjoyable, glad I got to try this little gem.

Deep dark brown with a dense one-finger tan brown head and a bit of lace. Aromas of roasted coffee, nuts, cocoa powder and a hint of smoke. Flavor is mostly rich chocolate malts, with big contributions from the coffee and coca, accompanied by licorice, herbs and gentle grassy hops. Full body, super creamy and smooth mouthfeel, little carbonation and a rich, decadent mocha finish.
