COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the coulter big cone pine tree is a well balanced I.P.A. It brings the style of I.P.A. back to its roots. Brewed with a hint of rye for head retention and a deeper malt character, this brew has the best of all worlds, great hop aroma, a strong body and deceiving strength.

DaSilky1 (2575) - San Diego, USA - OCT 1, 2010
Cloudy dirty orange color poured to the top of a pint glass thus no head. Nose a bit caramelly but its a pint glass so I can’t smell a damn thing. Flavors have a dishwater-like character to them, along with some spicy hop notes, ribbon-candy sweetness...its balanced but a touch generic tasting and its an ugly beer, dirty and cloudy looking like never before. Did I mention its a bit watery too? Sounds worse than it is, which makes this rating useless....thanks, ill be here all week.

JorisPPattyn (6727) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAY 8, 2012
Draught Thick, creamy, pale lemonyellow head over fully hazy orange beer with fine pearling. Citrussy hops, featuring mandarine and orangepeel. Dry citrussy bitterness, but with a fine aromatic, near bodycare-like perfumey finish. Spritzy MF, quite slick, hop-oily. Rather middle-of-the-road IPA, but nothing wrong.

Bottle. Smells of hops, some citrus. Pours cloudy golden orange and has almost no head. Surprisingly lacing for the little head. Palate is pleasing & moderately long.

Bottle. It pours clear dark orange with a disappearing off white head. The aroma has tropical fruit, caramel and buttered toffee. The flavor has some piney bitterness with caramel and alcohol. Very simple IPA with a harsh bitterness. Not my favorite.

Standard good lookin appearance. Aroma is peppery, piney, juniper berries with some bready malt. Strangely thin body. Flavor is piney and peppery with a bit of astringent. Malts are present and bready. Not great compared to other choices.

On tap at Bru in Lake Forest. Was assured by the bartender that they had just gotten this keg in today and just tapped it. Pours a dark orange with average off white head that doesn’t linger. Aroma is malt heavy with some bread and minimal, at best, hop/citrus presence. Taste is horrible. Bready, rye and forward first malt bill just put this one over the top. There is little to no sweetness and the hops are about 5% of this beer. This is just a horrible IPA that I have to think is really, really old. All the characteristics of an old IPA are here. If this isn’t then there really is some deep issues with this "IPA".

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2012 On draft at Tonys Darts Away: mellow nose not much there. Orange yellow with small frothy head. The Rye tastes more upfront than bootleggers rye. Nice creamy body. Decent but not mind blowing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone 3/9/12: lowered from 3.4 to 2.5: This is from a bomber just bought at Whole Foods. It tastes like aspirin. Really thin body, harsh aftertaste. Bummer. It smells ok, it looks clean and good, but it tastes meh.....

(Draught) Pours a clear orange body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of mustiness, caramel, grain, and citrus. Flavor of orange, caramel, mango, and grapefruit with a bitter finish.

On draft at Hollingshead’s, Orange. Pours a beautiful orange color. Very light aroma. Perfect amount of hops for a traditional IPA. An impressive yet subtle beer for the more experienced drinker.

Lightly hazy orangish pour. White head. Aroma of tropical fruit, resin, some sticky malts. Flavor is lightly bitter, tropic fruit, caramel.

Aroma is hops with a weird hint of body odor or wet, slightly fertalized grass. Appearnce is golden clear with a white head. Taste is grass pine pretty standard stuff but I can’t get past the weird odor. Palate is a bit thick and not terribly refreshing. Overall there are some issues going on here that I am having trouble dealing with.
