Hop fan? Cismontane fan? Did you like the Double Rainbow? If you answered yes to any of these questions you can’t miss this event. Seriously.

This will be the hoppiest beer to come out of Cismontane and maybe even all the OC. With over 3lbs per barrel of hops during brewing, the finished product came in at a whopping 140 IBU. Don’t worry too much about the hop punch because the 11.5% ABV should take the edge off. HA!

Dos Cone Es gets its name because it is a double “Dos” of the Coulter IPA, which is named after the largest pine “Cone” on earth and the “Es” simply is… Also, if you say it fast after having a few is sounds like “Dos cojones”.

One of six beers on a flight at Bru Grill and Market, Lake Forest, Orange County on 21st May 2015. Impressive stuff, really enjoyed this. Amber pour with a minimal topping. Aroma and taste was a blend of sweet malty molasses (caramel and toffee notes) and floral hops (with a bitter edge). Interesting and different, the sort of beers I love to try. The alcohol is hidden well by the depth of flavours but you know it is there and it adds to the enjoyment and suits the brew nicely.

Huge beer. Cloudy thick orange pour from bottle at home, from Blackwells. Honey, pine, oak, aroma. Oak, carmel, hoppy, floral, and a little whiskey flavor to it. A lot going on in this beer. Pretty pleasant.

500ml bottle. Mid amber shade. Dense off-white head. Smells hoppy, wet, leafy, juicy, faintly floral. Rye is there. Really clean tasting, fair old bitterness from the hops. Feels a lot more like a double IPA than I expected, less malt backbone and the hops are leading it. Drinks real easy. Good stuff.

Wow, this is a strong beer, strong alcohol taste that is. The color is amber. It has settlement floating in it. Reminds me of a strong pale ale without some of the bitterness. Tasted on 3/17/2014. Picked up for $10.55 a pint.

Bottle from Marketplace Alehouse and Deli, Doncaster. Hazy gold. Thin, sticky, white head. Very resinous. Fusty, bloomy, orange. Taste is big bitter. Plenty of boozy sweetness. Big, chewy, resinous palate. Finish is all of that, with a light booziness. Very nice indeed.

500 ml bottle as "Cismontane Dos Cone Es American Strong Rye Ale Aged on Oak Chips". Pours an amber copper colour with a thick white firm head. Aroma is very intriguing with English toffee, pine, herbs and wood. Flavour is very rich and thick with massive floral bitterness, heavy pine notes, grapefruit, bread, toffee, mild tart wooden notes, orange zest and herbs. Full bodied and oily mouthfeel. Alcohol is dangerously well hidden. The bitterness here is just awesome. 140 IBU is very present. Brilliant.

50 cl bottle as "Cismontane Dos Cone Es American Rye Ale Aged on Oak Chips".
Pours clear mahogany color with a large off-white head. Lots of caramel malts and ripe fruits on the nose, oak, subtle toffee and faint hops, alcohol comes through a bit too. Very oaky flavor, some rye notes, caramel, some fruit notes and resinous hops. Soft carbonation, alcohol fairly well hidden, dry malty finish. The oak chips don’t really fit here, otherwise tasty.

Bottle ’Aged on Oak Chips - 11.5%’. Clear deep red -amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is slightly soft and airy, Mild fine carbonation. Slightly sweet malts with a dark toffee streak. Touch of rye spice. Very light marmalade. Light woody bitterness and a little soft vanilla oak. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Woody and hoppy bitterness linger on. Flavours come together very well indeed and it’s very easy drinking. I had no idea this was 11.5% until I polished off the bottle and was wondering why my world view was a little fuzzier!

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como
Cloudy amber color with red hue; large creamy head. Strong aroma of sweet caramel and fudge; fruity (strawberry jam); lightly yeasty and feety. Full bodied; round mouthfeel; good malt and caramel flavor, a touch of fudge, moderately sweet; strong bitterness with orangey fruitiness and piney resins.
Nothing new under the sun, just a plain, bold and good American Strong.

Sample at House Beer. Reddish-amber color with a medium creamy white head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, ripe fruits and hops. Full, chewy body with flavors of sweet malt, fruit and earthy hops. The finish is incredibly sweet with a lingering caramel malt and subtle aftertaste. Decent overall.
