3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 popery (1133) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 2, 2013
500 ml bottle. Pours a nice warm red-tinged amber color. Cloudy, lots of sediment towards the bottom of the bottle. Medium light khaki head. Creamy. Good retention and lacing. Lots of hops and rye in the aroma. Hops are a mix of pine resin, grapefruit and pineapple with a little bit of blackberry and wildflower. Big caramel note. Lots of spicy, doughy rye flavor. Taste is fairly sweet. Lots of caramel and rye. Big piney hops. Good dose of bitterness but not overbearing. Some booze. It’s a bit much but for a 11.5% DIPA/ASA, I’m not going to criticize too much. Finish is floral, bitter and sweet with caramel. Lingering pine flavor. Mouthfeel is thick and a bit low on carbonation. Good beer, but it still suffers from the common flaws of big (>10% abv) hoppy beers.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopdog (7734) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 29, 2013
750ml bottle. Poured an amber color with an off white head. Citrus, some caramel, and I was getting some tropical fruitiness. Overall the 11.5% was well hidden.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 anders37 (12974) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAR 4, 2013

750mL bottle. Poured cloudy, deeper orange with a short, rich beige head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and nutty notes with lots of pineapple and peppery hops around.. quite assertive with booze-fueled oak accenting. The flavor found sweeter caramel and a touch of fruit at the core, with pineapple, black pepper, oak, and other spicy hops around.. quite a lot of boozage, but it grew on me quickly Medium-bodied, hot, and hoppy on the palate.. aggressive, but probably not unreasonably-so considering the ABV.

Deep orange body with a thin white head. Aroma is hoppy and sugary but good. Sweet and hoppy. Extremely delicious. Very hoppy. Citrus and pine. Medium bodied and resinous.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 wnoble (932) - French Lick, Indiana, USA - OCT 20, 2012
Bottle thanks to Kasey. Pours deep clear red with small frothy head that lingers. Nose is ripe fruits, citrus, sweet caramel malts, intense sweet resinous hops with a very evident amount of vanilla and slight woody character. Flavor is vanilla, citrus, ripe pineapples, fermenting oranges, honeydew melons. Medium body. Alcohol is warm and evident. This is rich and flavorful which takes away from drinkability.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 beersearcher (1974) - Glendale, California, USA - MAR 10, 2012
I was really looking forward to this. Big fan of Coulter and Double Rainbow. But this did not work for me. Initial taste was complex with spice and woody notes followed by a ABV kick. But then it just became hard to drink. Hop bitterness faded to nothing.

On tap. Pours with a hazed golden hue and a large off-white, creamy head. Aromas are are lightly phenolic (coriander), esters, poolwater, vegetal, grapefruit. Pepper, off. Flavors are really, really sweet. Super off (I know it is a 10+ IPA, which is sketchy to start, but this is sweet for that!). Really fruity. Grape fruit, citrus, estery. Sweet, full bodied, medium bubbles. Not my thing.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 womencantsail (7104) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - JUL 29, 2011
A: The beer pours a slightly hazed orange-amber color with a finger of white head.
S: Not terribly fragrant for a double IPA. There is a bit of citrus to it and a lot of sweetness. Some tropical fruits and some brown sugar and table sugar. A slight floral note to it.
T: There is a distinct, sugared frut note. It’s almost like fruity pebbles. Some light pineapple and mango to it. Somewhat bitter and a bit of booze to it. A light grassiness and even more booze, especially as it warms up.
M: The body is almost syrupy with a medium carbonation.
O: Not a huge fan of this one. Not a very good double IPA.
