Hop fan? Cismontane fan? Did you like the Double Rainbow? If you answered yes to any of these questions you can’t miss this event. Seriously. This will be the hoppiest beer to come out of Cismontane and maybe even all the OC. With over 3lbs per barrel of hops during brewing, the finished product came in at a whopping 140 IBU. Don’t worry too much about the hop punch because the 11.5% ABV should take the edge off. HA! Dos Cone Es gets its name because it is a double “Dos” of the Coulter IPA, which is named after the largest pine “Cone” on earth and the “Es” simply is… Also, if you say it fast after having a few is sounds like “Dos cojones”.

I had this on tap at Cismontane Brewing in Rancho Santa Margarita. It’s an opaque golden pour with a nice hoppy nose. The flavor is balanced w/ hops and malt with an orange sweetness in the background. nicely done

I was really looking forward to this. Big fan of Coulter and Double Rainbow. But this did not work for me. Initial taste was complex with spice and woody notes followed by a ABV kick. But then it just became hard to drink. Hop bitterness faded to nothing.

cask pour. Clear dark amber color/ no head. Nice pine, caramel, pit fruit, french oak aromas. Medium bodied with light co2. Pine floral, spicy caramel, woody, pit fruit flavors, warming finish--very good

On tap. Pours with a hazed golden hue and a large off-white, creamy head. Aromas are are lightly phenolic (coriander), esters, poolwater, vegetal, grapefruit. Pepper, off. Flavors are really, really sweet. Super off (I know it is a 10+ IPA, which is sketchy to start, but this is sweet for that!). Really fruity. Grape fruit, citrus, estery. Sweet, full bodied, medium bubbles. Not my thing.

A: The beer pours a slightly hazed orange-amber color with a finger of white head. S: Not terribly fragrant for a double IPA. There is a bit of citrus to it and a lot of sweetness. Some tropical fruits and some brown sugar and table sugar. A slight floral note to it. T: There is a distinct, sugared frut note. It’s almost like fruity pebbles. Some light pineapple and mango to it. Somewhat bitter and a bit of booze to it. A light grassiness and even more booze, especially as it warms up. M: The body is almost syrupy with a medium carbonation. O: Not a huge fan of this one. Not a very good double IPA.

Tap at Taps brewfest. Rating #2. Light orangish pour. Great tropical fruit aroma, mango and pineapple. Flavor was similar although it was less intense. Nice. (1818)
