(En fût au Ritual Tavern): Une eau passablement dure s’offre en support à des cerises enrobées d’une substance chocolatée brut. L’acidité est minime, la présence de corps confortable.

My Bottom Line:
Caramelized cherries evolve into minerals and mild tartness in this easygoing Flemish-style Red.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the hazy mahogany.
-The soft prickling of carbonation doesn’t do much for the mouthfeel or flavor profile.
-The flavor profile is simple and straight to the point.
-I would have preferred a bit more tartness or less minerality.

On tap at Ritual Tavern, San Diego.

Tap at Sublime Ale House. Pours clear tawny with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is grapes, cherries, and light cheese, some butyric acid and cereal malt. Flavor is tart and cheesy grapes and cherries, light malt and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.

Had this at the same time I was having Rodenbach six-pack. This held it’s own pretty well. Lighter in color and slightly sweeter and sourer, this was enjoyable. Of course, at $10 a bottle vs. $12 a sixer, I’ll always buy the Rodenbach.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Hazy dark brown in colour with slight ruby red highlights. It has a sharply tart red fruity flavour with creamy vanilla and sour cherry on the finish.

Draft on tap at Alces & Ales Tenaya (Las Vegas, NV). Glad to be back. Pours a darker deep brownish ruby hue, a gentle winter glow hits the edges and bottom in this dark light backlit by poker machines. Small frothy head atop dissipates quickly, tannish whispery lacing is small and subtle. Aromas present lots of stone fruit, cherry and touches of raspberry meet cranberry, dried fruit, subtle red wine and carmelized malts. Jabs of balsamic and gentle vinegar creep in as it warms, subtle biscuit and and earthy malts move in and give some balance. Initial is a bit less intense than expected, lighter body and pretty quaffable with jabs of red tart and fleshy sweeter cherries. Touches of earth, gentle tartness jabs in and out. Earth, biscuit and bread show with some citric and sour elements getting a bit more aggressive as we press on. A gentle touch of girth into the middle, carmelized malts and earth, some cobwebs and gentle red wine spits with nice red fruit sustaining throughout. Some punchy balsamic and earth, faint leather and soil with some decent sourness as we trail out. Where this one fails is as we finish up, a darker and tart front end quickly tapers out and goes out with a more flabby, unrefined finish. Lacking that punch of drive to sustain long term. Ok.
