3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
16oz bottle. Cloudy unfiltered orange-tan. Foamy off-white head. Pretty light bodied for the style at first, but the unique high temperature lager tones kind of come through after a few sips. Not that exciting, but a decent example of the style. It was also only 1.99 so my expectations weren’t so high. No off flavors, clean and easy.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Birratrovo, Como
Light amber color with small head. The malt is well present for a Lager, with a caramellish side, evident in both aroma and taste; impression of raw cereals. Strong bitterness. Clean.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
From a pounder bottle. Smell is mild perfume of sweeter fermenting fruit. Looks somewhat like a thicker lager, hazy and such. Taste is like mildly soapy lager. Malty and a little creamy. Could be a little more behaved. Has a tad of that ill ale dull hop attitude to it, like older hops mixed with older lager. Go figger. Tries to be a little cloying but never quite gets there.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours light orange with small white head which fades to no lacing. Aroma is of apple juice, fruits, light bready toasted malts, sweet malts, and some some yeast. Taste is similar to the aroma with the addition of some light grassy hops and some light pine. Has a medium-light body with a semi watery mouthfeel and a semi dry, semi bitter, medium short finish. Overall, a slightly above average California Common that is pretty drinkable and somewhat tasty.

A perfect lager. Fresh, clean, crisp, golden, just enough hops and no funky skunkiness. Killer with fish.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bright golden orange with nice head. Smells great slightly earthy, malty with hints of the grassy, piney hops.
Taste: crisp and refreshing with notes of creamy nuttyness and caramel malts. Hops are more on the finish with some piney, herbal notes.
Mouthfeel is good, it’s light and crisp on the tongue. Hint of viscosity could help at the end of the taste.
Overall this is a definite favorite of the style. Had this beer with chorizo kale soup. Amazing combo. Definitely will have this one again.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Los Angeles, Ca - Beverage Warehouse - 22 oz bomber. Medium copper pour, soft off-whitehead that sticks around a while, nice bubble action. Aroma has some fresh lake water accents, a hint of olive oil, some light date actions. Flavor has a light citrus bent to it, some light toffee sweetness, a bit of nuttiness in the back end. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean. Pretty nice.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A careful pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a long lasting, three-finger thick, dense, tan colored head, that leaves lots of lacing, and slowly subsides with a very structural varied, mesa forming head; you can’t ask for much more in the appearance of a beer. The beer is a nice, red-stained copper color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright copper hue when held up to the light. The nose has a warm biscuit like maltiness, a flint like hop character, a soft citrus / berry like hop character, and lots of floral / nectar like notes, and a spicy, whole grain cracker like malt character. The nose is quite appetizing, fresh, and very inviting.
Lightly sweet up front, there is a solid prickly carbonation, as well as a bitter hop bite to this beer. There is a flint like edge to the hop character here, and herbal, not quite menthol like edge / bite, and a noticeable citrus character that when coupled with the malt provides a berry like flavor towards the finish. The malt character plays a prominent role as well; sweet caramelized grain notes, lots of English biscuit character. The body has a nice malty fullness to it that is not too heavy, this is still quite quaffable, but has a bit of meat to it, and I can see it pairing well with food.
A fantastic version of the style. This is fresh, and much better than Anchor steam this far from the source in San Francisco (I haven’t had a great, fresh Anchor steam in years as it doesn’t travel well).
