As you can see, I am a strong advocate of cheap pale lagers. They catch a lot of flak, but in reality, they are important beers. For most of us in America and Canada, a shitty pale lager was probably our first beer. They have fueled more parties and made more family reunions bearable than any other style of beer. La Crosse lager, how ever is one beer that cannot get my gutter-punk seal of approval. On a school training trip to La Crosse, WI, I thought it appropriate to sample the city’s own beer. At $8 a case (in La Crosse at least), it was an easy buy, but the drinking was another story. Even chilled down in a hotel sink filled with ice, my first sip of this runoff was a shock to my system. It was sickeningly sweet, like many of its bargain brother are, but with a repulsive after taste. Chugging (my weapon of choice against bad beers) was useless against this vile brew. After nearly ten minutes, I finished my last sip. Later that day, we passed by the City Brewery (which is guilty of brewing this junk), which claims to have "The World’s Biggest 6-Pack" (six large brewery silos dressed up to look like La Crosse tallboys). Already drunk off of delicious Pearl Street Brewery beers, I had my buddy pull over for pictures of the "6-Pack". I didn’t have a camera. I just wanted to piss on homeland of this vile beer. Avoid at all costs unless economic conditions leave you no choice.

Nice malty aroma with just a hint of hops. Beutiful golden appearance with a short head when poured from a bottle into a pint. Very clear with what appears to be above average carbonation. Good flavor, but no particular ingredient jumps out at me. Finishes with more of a barley flavor. Pleasant overall beer flavor. I’ve heard this beer called the ’New Old Style’ and I can see the resemblance.

Tastes EXACTLY like that Great "Old Style" that G.Heilman used to brew in the late 70’s when I would shank the stuff from my old man as a kid! Good Bier!!

Like many aforementioned reviews, I was drawn to by the price. I expected shitty beer, but didn't get it. Nice honey color, initial head that dissipates quickly, goes down smooth. Best combo of price/flavor out there.

I used the can as an ashtray after I finished and the taste of the contents of the can didn’t change much. metalic and thin flavored.

Well, i think mine had a shelf life problem by the time it made its way down here to IL. But, for the price this is a great deal. I’ll bet its tastes great fresh off the tap up in LaCrosse. If i see it in bottles i will buy it again.

A good inexpensive beer. Brewed by a small brewer. I like it better then the Miller, Bud macro beers

The best beer available in a can. Period. For an American pale lager, this beer has a lot of complexity. For the price, there is no better beer out there. Nice balance of malt and hops. Smooth finish that satisfies. Body is very good for an American lager. Color is pale yellow with a hint of orange. My search for a staple beer is over, and this is it. For the money, nothing beats it.

suprisingly not that bad. I paid 10 bucks for a 30 pack (hey if you’re gonna try it, go all out) and actually enjoyed it... to an extent. beats miller...
