Named in honor of Ernest Rutherfords work on Splitting the Atom. Amber coloured beer with plenty of character. Bursting with First Gold hoppiness.

Bottle from JSG Wine Merchants, Hills Road, Cambridge. Dark gold, over-carbonated. Little white head sitting proudly on the top. Sweet smell of caramel/taffy, somewhat sickly if truth be told. Taste isnít much better: sweet and malty with a misplaced spiciness. The flavour in the finish is short, but the heavy carbonation lingers on the tongue. I just donít care for it all that much. I should say that Iím not (usually) a fan of First Gold hops, so this was never going to appeal to me.

Bottle from home from Waitrose picked up by the lovely Sarah. Clear golden coloured pour with a loose sticky white head. Aroma is earthy hay, sweet careml , some diacetyl maybe. English yeast on the nose as well. Flavour is medium sweet, caramel, damp hay. Dfinitey a little diacetyl, but not too offensive. Medium palate, some sweetness, moderate carbonation and some grain tanin.

Bottle at home on 15th January 2013; Christmas gift. Pours golden amber with thin white part-lacing foam. Rich hoppy aroma. Deliciously hoppy in-mouth with tangy citrus, a little smoke and savoury touches. Finish is fairly citric and biscuit-malty with developing bitterness. Zingy, engaging texture and medium body. Excellent.
