2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from JSG Wine Merchants, Hills Road, Cambridge. Dark gold, over-carbonated. Little white head sitting proudly on the top. Sweet smell of caramel/taffy, somewhat sickly if truth be told. Taste isn’t much better: sweet and malty with a misplaced spiciness. The flavour in the finish is short, but the heavy carbonation lingers on the tongue. I just don’t care for it all that much. I should say that I’m not (usually) a fan of First Gold hops, so this was never going to appeal to me.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home on 15th January 2013; Christmas gift. Pours golden amber with thin white part-lacing foam. Rich hoppy aroma. Deliciously hoppy in-mouth with tangy citrus, a little smoke and savoury touches. Finish is fairly citric and biscuit-malty with developing bitterness. Zingy, engaging texture and medium body. Excellent.
