COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned
Named in honor of Charles Darwin’s link with the University City, the beer has been tried by a descendant who said Darwin would have approved! A blended ruby-golden coloured fruity flavour bitter with a tangy aftertaste.

Cask at Cambridge Beer Festival 2006. Deep ruby colour. Sweet, caramel like aroma. Rich full body with lots of caramel. Really rather nice.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml. Deep Mahogany red with white head. Beautiful looking beer, but thats as far as you can go, terrible acidic, sour taste in the bottle conditioning, I think that all the East Anglian micro’s must use the same bottlers as its hard to get a good one. I will re rate when I get hold of the cask beer.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour with a small bubbly white foam. Toasted malts and lemon in the aroma with a small acidic touch. Smooth flavour of nuts, toasted malts, lights chocolate with notes of grassy and orangey hops. Long nutty and grassy aftertaste with touches of orange-peels.. No sourness but it has a feeling of a decent homebrew.to it.

Cask (gravity dispense), Cambridge Beer Festival, May 2006. A flavoursome darkish brown beer, with a ruby tint. The abundance of chocolate notes on the nose surprised me until I realised that this is, in fact, a brewery blend including Parkers Porter. More chocolate, together with rich malt and nutty notes on the palate,. Leavened by a decent hit of hop bitterness, leading to a quite dry finish. Clean, smooth mouthfeel. rather nice. Seems to be better on cask than from bottle, judging by the comments here.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Cambridge BF. A dark brown coloured beer with a good malty caramel and chocolate aroma. The taste is quite full on chocolate and malt with reasonable alcohol. A little like a thin chocolate liqueur.

StueyD (661) - Heacham, King’s Lynn, Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAR 13, 2006
A dark, red, brown beer with a strong, beige head. A light, malty nose with a slight hint of citrus fruit, which is followed by a touch of hop. The taste is dry, slightly bitter, again with the malt and citrus fruit elements. The finish is dry, yet smooth. (Bottle - “The Real Ale Shop”, Branthill Farm, nr. Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk).

Cask at Wellington, Birmingham. Small frothy head, clear dark brown appearance. Light hoppy aroma, but mainly malty. I got hints of caramel and chocolate. Medium body and moderately bitter.

Bottle. Brown in colour, with some slight ruby edges. Quite dry on the tongue, with some crakery/biscuity type malt. Light chocolate flavours, with a dry, lemony bitterness, some light acidity throughout.
