probstblueribbon (3401) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 1, 2010
500 ml can from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear light golden with a small white head. Aroma: Some light grassy hops, grains/cereals, a touch of apple juice, a little resinous hops, touches of bready crust/biscuit maltiness, light but not too bad, particularly for an “Eastern European” lager. Palate: Medium body, medium-light carbonation, a little bit of Pils smoothness. Flav.: Actually a nice blend of light malts and peppery, grassy hops, much better than expected from nose and preconceptions; dry with some bitterness and a light, slightly fruity malt finish.

Exceeded expectations.

rederic (3228) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 8, 2010
500ml can, bright clean yellow color, with a bubbly white head, faint corny, grainy honeyed pale, pilsener malt nose with a light haystack accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a crisp pale cereal malt, faint grainy honeyish character with a light flowery grassy herbal hop note with a hint of vanilla, and a mild corny undertone accent, leading towards a mild malty sweetness, light leafy hop bitterness finish.

Clear yellow with decent white foam head. Aroma is OK for pilsener, taste is bittersweet, bit yeast. Short small bitter aftertaste, associated with some caramel. (Bucharest 201208)

Bottle. Straw coloured, collapsing white head. High bead. Grainy aroma with hay, earth, grass. Smells clean enough despite a green bottle and a long journey. Mild grainy malt sweetness with some bitterness. A little papery and metallic. Not good but not a disaster.

Can from the LCBO. Very pale greenish-yellow body with a huge white head that disappears while my back is turned for a few seconds - literally! Aroma - Jesus, what is that? It’s like an odd spiced sour ale with a strong suggestion of plastic and a backing note of cooked vegetables. I have honestly never smelled a beer that smells like this before, and I hope I never do again. Flavour isn’t quite as repulsive, but it’s still no great shakes - cheap tasting malt, icing sugar, corn, harsh grassy hops, and a helluvalot more alcohol in the finish than I should be getting off a 4.8% lager. Hoo boy.

Spab (2940) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 10, 2010
500 ml can from LCBO. Pours a clear bright gold with good-sized white head. Aroma of grassy hops, bread and a light fruity sweetness. Flavour is mostly of wet cardboard with a little breadiness and some grassiness in the finish. Light to medium body; fairly fizzy carbonation. Pretty mediocre.
