BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Aug 10, 2009 MiBG Summer fest 2009, Saturday session: Nearly black with a small fading head. The aroma has notes of coffee, chocolate, leather, grassy hops and some plum esters. The taste is fruity and chocolate with light bitterness. The finish displays lots of coffee and some ashy notes. The mouth feel is soft and a touch thin. Simply run of the mill, needs more depth and mouth feel. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Jul 25, 2009 On tap at the 2009 MSBF. Opaque black with small tan head. Coffee and roast aroma dry, a little smoke. Flavor is similar but more chocolate and a little lactose, definent roast and coffee though. Medium and well carbonated body. Good enough. Brad (364), Berkley, Michigan, USA Jul 7, 2005 12 oz. bottle: Transparent black, pours like water, tan slowly diminishing head. Aromas are super faint, maybe some coffee?? and hops. Flavor is watery and hides most of the flavors, smoke smoke and faint bitter coffee. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Jul 6, 2005 12 oz bottle and (thankfully) the last in the series. There’s a head on this stuff, which is a good start. Alright, it’s official. This brewpubs beers are ALL horrible. Im no brewer but the choice of hops and quality of ingredients are plain awful. Im not gettin any coffee flavors maybe roastiness at best. Thin bodied but the funky tang sourness thing is hard to see part. I hope their food is good at least. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 27, 2003 MIBG Fest: Rich brown colour. Roasty caramel & coffee aroma. Creamy mouthfeel, hints of chocolate and espresso in the flavour, and some hops to tie up the finish. hennes (932), Fountain, Michigan, USA Aug 16, 2002 The coffee comes in the aroma, what settles on the palate is roasty, creamy, a touch sweet but mostly big dark maltiness. The best CJ’s offering.
