American Stout. St. Mawes is a delightfully complex beer that proves that black beers need not be heavy, rich, or overbearing. This easy-drinking stout has wonderful coffee, chocolate, and smokey notes that make it truly a beer to savor.

Pours a deep brown almost black color with a dirty water roast malt aroma. Taste is chocolate malt roasted over an open flame. Bitter male aftertaste that lingers for awhile. Seems like the malt was burnt a little quick gave the beer a very mild smoky tinge of flavor.

The pour is black in color with a creamy khaki head. A fairly nice aroma to this beer. Plenty of coffee and roasted malt. Some chocolate, a light earthy hoppiness, and some mild toffee sweetness. The flavor has more of a charred quality to it. Some hints of ash and acidity. Coffee, licorice, and intense roast. Lacks the sweetness of the chocolate and toffee that were present on the nose. A light bitterness on the finish.
