Cask (gravity dispense) at Egham Beer Festival, November 2012. More amber than red. Interesting choice of styles for an early beer for a new brewery. I didn’t think it quite came off. Quite chewy malt with rather subtle smoke. Not really ballsy enough to generate much of a wow factor. The underlying beer was fruity and, again, a bit understated. Seemed to fall rather between two stools - I know balance is fine & dandy ’n’ all but I tend to prefer smoked beers that are more in your face.

Cask gravity, Coventry BF, 27/04/13. Red amber with a reluctant halo. Bonfire, stubble burning aroma. Smoked hay, cream cheese and German sausage suggestions. Genuine smoke mingling with red berry. Good.

Cask @ Charles Lamb. The pour’s deep red with a small off-white head. The nose is smoked ham. General grains, rye bread. A bit of chocolate and caramel. Some red berry. The taste is more smoke. Light earthy hops. Fat malt body. Fine carbonation. Overall, not my thing.

Cask, gravity at Redditch Beer Festival,Worcestershire.Hazy light amber to gold pour with a minimal off white head.Smoked malt nose.Taste of medium sweet peat malt with a background of smoke.Well balanced with a dry finish making a different and tasty beer and one which i think will get a lot of differing views.

Cask at tbe White Swan, JDW, London. Pours. Lear gold with a tight, off-white crown. Pale smoked malt nose, some minerals. Light to medium sweet flavor, lots of minerals, pale smoked malts, cheap ham. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Good and smokey to finish, fairly well balanced, more mInerals, light ham, white bread, hints of herbs. Actually a pretty decent smoked beer. I would have no trouble burying a few pints of this stuff.

Gravity at the 13th Egham BF @ EUSC - 15/11/12. Hazed light amber with reddish hues and a thin white head that soon clears to the edges. Nose is malty, a little caramel, some hop presence. Taste follows, light caramel, touch of fruit, light smoke. Medium bodied with soft carbonation leading to a bitter finish. File under ’W’ - decidedly whelming!

Cask conditioned at Egham Beer Fest #13. Hazy gold with slight head. Light smokiness in the malty body a touch of damp bonfire and smoked bacon. A malty fruitiness develops although staying bitter. I agree though, really pretty odd.

Gravity dispense at the 13th Egham Beer Fest. It pours hazy light red with small white head. The nose is light smoke, ham and faint vinegar. The taste is rather dry, grainy, faint smoke, straw and some bitterness, with a long dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Rather odd. Disappointing...
