Commercial Description:
The aroma of the Backfin Pale Ale is of mild autumn fruit surrounded by the pleasant sweetness of the caramel malts that give the beer its richness in color and mouth feel. As you drink the beer, balance of flavor is what is most evident. The malt, the hops, and the yeast each contribute, as you taste the perfect fusion of a complicated blend of carefully chosen ingredients and brewing process expertise. The beer finishes very clean, with a fresh hop spiciness. As with most Clay Pipe products, The Backfin it is not heavy as it goes down. Its fast mellow finish will easily allow room for the consumer to enjoy another one.

Nice smooth pale ale. More relative to an English than an american pale ale. The hoppiness is decent for that style, but could use a little more body. All in all not a bad brew.

Bottle courtesy of beachbum25. Pours copper with a white head. Smells of perfume, and earthy. Tastes of light pepper, perfume, sweet malt. Nice.

Pours kind of a cloudy amber color, very little carbonation. Aroma is very slight and sweet. Flavor has some hop bite to it, but really very little flavor. I can hardly taste anything in fact, its just kind of bitter. Very disappointed.

Bottle from In Vino Veritas in Keswick, VA. Red pour with a small head. Decent lacing. Malty aroma with a touch of citrus hops. Slightly bitter caramel and grain taste. A tad bit thin. Pleasant brew.

had this one at Camden Yards. Not bad. pours an orange color with a smaller head. aroma is sweet and slightly hoppy with a nice balance of malt. flavor wasnt as good as the aroma as it had a thin finish, but it went good with the game.
