3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle-Hazy amber color w/heavy lacing & no head. Some hops up front, but not heavily so. Long floral, grassy flavor w/a malt finish. Does seem more like a Brittish Ale than an American Pale Ale, but has a better finish.

Fruity yet subtle aroma. Pale gold body. Nice sweet taste. Smooth ending... nothing offensive, yet nothing great about this beer.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A decidedly sweeter Pale ale. Pours Amber-brown with a medium-white head. Mostly a maltier brew, with a slight hop, nothing noticeable. After completion, left with smooth aftertaste.
Not a bad MD brew.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours light amber with a white, one-finger, quickly-receding head. Lots of diacetyl in the aroma alongside sweet, biscuity English malts and a pleasant grassy hop aroma. Very subtle flavor dominated by the malt, but with just enough of an English hop flavor to be called a Pale Ale (though definitely not an American one). Fairly unexciting flavor, but thereís nothing bad about it, either. Recommended for fans of English Pales or anyone looking for a respectable session beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Backfin Pale Ale is really a British styled pale ale a la Bass vrs an American pale ale. This beer isnít very aggressive when it comes to hop character, and strikes a good balance between malt and hop character. Backfin Pale Ale pours to a beautiful, bright, deep golden to light amber color, with a white head that fades and a moderate to lively amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is malty, with good aromas of pale and biscuit malt, with hints of grassy hop aroma. The palate is lean, with some nice sweet and pale malt flavor, and light touchs of jammy fruit. Backfin fiishes with more pale malt character up front, then ends with mild grassy hop bitterness. A nice session brew, this beer could use a little more character but would match well with steamed crabs with a heavy dusting of Old Bay seasonings, and drawn butter.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopscotch, thanks Eric!) First sip, and it seems fairly sweet but in a sugary way, so Iím immediately less impressed than I thought Iíd be. Moderate caramel, a gentle toastiness, and a slight hoppy bitterness round out the flavor profile, but nothing really is ringing my bell here. Lightly sweet and toasty aroma matches the flavor, but doesnít smell as sugary as it tastes. Light-medium bodied with decent carbonation, but the sugary sweetness kind of tires out the palate after awhile. Light amber color shows only a minimal haze, revealing the many streams of small carbonation bubbles rising slowly through the beer. Unfortunately, the off-white head fades completely, so the rising bubbles have no brethren to link up with. Not as enjoyable as I was expecting, and even putting aside the expectations, I just donít like it that much.

Sent a friend out to pick me up a "random" six pack and this is what I got. Never even heard of this brewery. This beer suffers from lack of flavor. While it is a good beer, it doesnt really have a whole lot going on. I cold see this as a beer I would like to drink a bunch of when boozin hard. It goes down really easy and doesnt kill your palate after a few beers and certainly desnt have any skunkyness to it like a cheap BMC. So, it does a good job as a quick drinkin beer that aint gonna give you a skunky beer face. I think I have written enough about how average and unoffensive this beer is.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear golden-amber body with mild carbonation and a small white head. Aroma is of sweet, fruity malt with some grapefruit and pine notes. Medium sweet with gentle, clean bitterness. Malt quality seems a little stale. Unlike the Clay Pipe Pursuit of Happiness, thereís really nothing special here.

This is a nice simple APA that would go great with food (like pizza or wings or tacos, etc). On itís own, itís non-exciting - smooth, but thin; just some decent maltiness paired with a juicy citrus hop, fairly well balanced, overall.
