Sampled on tap on 7/14/06 at the RBSG: Pours a barely transparent dark brown with a large, frothy, wispy-lacing light tan head. Lightly malty aroma has some tart fruit notes and a touch of milk chocolate. Body starts mildly sweet with some crystal and chocolate malts turning more tart and lightly fruity toward the finish. I’d prefer this to be sweeter and less tart.

On tap at RBSG tasting, RFD, Washington DC on 14 July 2006. Pleasant roasted character with decent hop bitterness to back it up. Some berry fruit in the flavour. Well balanced and satisfying.

At the RFD party at RBSG ’06. Dark beer with a creamy tan head. Roasted grain nose. Lots of roasted grains, ash and charcol, with an almost smokey bacon quality. Coffee bean finish with some melon and berry hints. Very tastey beer.

At RBSG 2006 party at RFD. A very black beer with a slight brown shine and a nice brown head. The aroma is sweet chocolaty combined with notes of roasted malt - quite complex. The flavor is a bit acidic roasted with light notes of chocolate, that grown in intesity toward the end, which is dry with light notes of wood. I find the body a bit thin.

RBSG 06 DC @ RFD’s Special Tasting Dark black, tan head, lots of lacing. Nose of starchy roast, silky chocolate and a mellow coffee note. Light nuttiness and metallic chalk in the mouthfeel but it still has a nice sweet maple and molasses undertone. The finish is balanced and creamy. A nice porter!

RBSG DC 2006: Pours to a deep brown colored body with a medium, light tan head. Aroma is mocha, roasted chocolate, and mildly dry powdered chocolate. Taste is bitter cocoa, dried chocolate, vanilla, and some nice wood notes that blend well with the dry chocolate flavors.

On tap at RFD during RBSG 2006. This was my first Ratebeer Summer gathering and I had no idea how much fun these things are! Kudos to the guys who organized this pre-event at RFD. This was the first beer of the night. Dark brown with a beautiful beige head. The beer did not seem to have very much aroma. The flavor was a real good blend of roasted malt and chocolate. Really thick in body, Substantial, I’d say. Downright chewy. Finished with a nice milky drying mouth feel from the hops. Great finish. Little did I realize the beasts that were yet to come that night.

Sampled at RFD during RBSG 2006. Pours a thick head over a dense brown body. Chocolate in both the aroma and flavor. A bit thin and one dimensional.

Sampled at RFD during RBSG 2006. Dark clear brown with ruby edges and a frothy light brown head. Pleasant, roasty aroma with a hint of grass. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, moderately hopped. Bitterness from the roasty, somewhat burnt finish. Moderately sweet. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and medium carbonation. Pretty solid.
