pjk33 (383), Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 9, 2007 Bottle. My sister Anne gave to me for Christmas 2006. To be fair, I just drank a Great Divide Hercules IPA and this one just doesn’t compare, so my rating may be a little low. It has no real aroma to speak of after pouring a light orange color with no head and little lace. Taste is dirt, old musty straw, and bitterness without any balance at all. This is not a good beer as far as I’m concerned. I’m not even sure that it is much of an IPA other than the pale malt and some hops... Great Name... below average beer.
tronraner (1431), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Oct 2, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours deep copper with thin, tight khaki head. The aroma is freshly mown lawn, cotton candy, caramel, and citrus. The flavor is iced tea, grapefruit, and ample bitterness. It’s piney and herbal toward the finish. Decent, but it really needs more hop flavor (not just disembodied bitterness). branspra (47), Arlington, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle. Average head with off-white color. Fair lacing and amber color. Hints of caramel, wood, and heavy lime. Medium body and oily texture with bitter finish. The smell was very hoppy, the taste not so much. Ibrew2or3 (1757), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2008 Courtesy of GMCC2181. 12oz bottle pours a clear copper with tan head. The aroma starts with an initial grapefruit note and then moving into a region of mild pine hops and sweet to faintly roasty malts. The taste greets you with a warm embrace of moderate strength grapefruit hop bitterness. I also get a faint butterscotch note that enhances the experience. It ends with lingering grapefruit hop bitterness, mild roasty malts and faint caramel butter. mwelsh13 (178), Maryland, USA Sep 8, 2008 Firkin @ DuClaw Real Ale Festival. Called EKG due to the fact that it was the same recipe but they used East Kent Goldings to hop the cask. Medium golden color. Herbal hop aroma. Low hop bitterness with initial taste. Nice twist on the IPA. jjpm74 (3087), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle courtesy of beachbum25. Pours copper with a thin white head. Smells of citrus, some earthy hints. Tastes peppery with some earthy hints and some mild bitterness on the finish. Decent.
