Pale 31 is an ode to our home state of California—the 31st to be named in fact. Beer may not be associated with terroir the way wine is, but we believe that where we’re from impacts how our beers taste. This California Style Pale Ale represents the bold yet approachable spirit that embodies our state. A crisp floral hop aroma precedes a medium-body and clean finish.

355ml can. Pours a clear amber with a large, frothy, long lasting, white head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, grapefruit and pine. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, grapefruit, orange, pine and grass with a dry, bitter, hop resin finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Nice.

Can from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Some piney hop aroma, bit of citrus, some tropical fruit, and a light light of earthy barnyard. Clear medium gold color, thin head, very fine-beaded lace. Citrusy, with grapefruit, fresh and clear malt/hop balance, persistent but not overdone bitterness, with light citrus again in finish. Fairly dry. Thin and crisp. Very fresh and enjoyable.

Aroma is very floral and grassy, some malt, pine, strong bug spray. Appearance is slightly darker golden, white head, some haze. Taste is very floral, some pine, light and very easy to drink, refreshing. Mouthfeel is light body, light carbonation, crisp, aftertaste is mostly floral hops but the flavor doesn’t stick around. Overall, really very crushable and tasty, albeit light.

12 ounce can. Pours an orange gold color topped by a frothy white head. Fragrant floral hop nose with bready notes. First sip yields lightly toasted malt flavor with biscuity notes. Smooth and flavorful middle with a hint of nutty goodness. Crisp, dry finish has a touch of citrus hops. Well balanced and quite drinkable.
