Commercial Description:
Created to celebrate Clipper City’s 10th Anniversary – extremely limited and vintage dated – this extravagantly malty barley wine will show well upon release but continue to evolve for years.

on tap at kelly’s. pours a clear amber, with little to no head. a not terribly overwhelming smell of caramel malts, berry-like fruitiness, some earthy hops, a rather whiskey-like flavor, and a hint of alcohol. taste is much the same, with a nutty caramel malt dominating, some grape notes, followed by a bit of hops and some bready malt. light but lingering bitter finish, with a thick, chewy, sticky body, but very little carbonation. not a bad offering. it was served a bit on the cold side, and more character came out as it warmed. i’m sure i’ll have this again.

2005 bottle poured a medium brown-orange color. Wispy light creme colored head. Sweet caramel, toffee and some coffee aromas. Nice hop bitterness that quickly fades to a sweet malt goodness. A little alcohol at the swallow. Lingering molasses flavor at the end. I am so glad I opened that case of beer that has been in my basement for the last 3 YEARS!

Clear copper with a fleeting head. Nice malty pit fruit aroma with mild oxidation. Big malty pit fruit cotton candy sweetness with a nicely bitter alcohol twang to finish. 2006 bottling.

Bottled: Good barley wine! Pours a slight ruby amber color with a creamy white head. It has a sweet smell of fruits and malts, and tastes of dark fruit and a large amount of alcohol that is just wonderful! Nice beer a good Heavy Seas

Bottle 2007. Pours a red beer with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty with a strong nose of the alcohol. Flavor is sweet fruit and a little bit of hops and a dry finish.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear ruddy brown color. The head was thick, creamy, and tan with good retention. Nice aroma of brown sugar accented by pear, apple, and cinnamon. Medium to full bodied and sweet. The flavor profile included the likes of brown sugar, pear, spices, and a bit of tobacco. A hint of alcohol came out at the end, but was fairly well hidden.
