Maybe it’s too balanced - I like DIPA to have hops that smack me down - this one is too "nice". Pretty malty, as you can immediately tell by the color. Smooth frothy head. I guess I prefer west coast and midwest dipas more than what I’ve tried from the east coast. This reminds me of the Harpoon Leviathan.

A bit on the rubbing alcohol side of the hop spectrum but still enjoyable. A bit of bubblegum up front from the amarillo and then fading into a citrus and orange bitter finish. Decent sweetness and some nice malt balance to this. Definitely not getting much of an alcohol vibe so that is hidden well. 5000 (2900), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 21, 2009 Bottle:   Amberish, slight haze, moderate to large foamy white head, so-so lacing.   Sweet citrusy hop nose, caramel malts, slight fire.   Fairly juicy on the tongue, bitter yet mainly the citrus peel sweetness.   Good malt base.   Not real big, but it has enough malt to carry it.   Yep, this one is really juicy that is for sure.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Lingering citrusy hoppy sweetness.   A little sticky.   I like that its not just overly hoppy but instead has a good sweet malt base.   Thanks Rob!

Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, resinous hops, caramel, a touch of bread, every effing appetizing. Flavors didn’t let me down. Citrus hops and caramel in a perfect DIPA balance with resinous hops, fruit, alcohol, orange and sweet malt. Nice mix of sweet and bitter with some orange on the finish and moderate bitterness and alcohol too. Excellent throughout. Take the arc to Arturus, the spike to Spica and tile the glass back and enjoy! keepersj12 (825), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA

Aroma of sweet dried fruit, malt and hops. Very well balanced flavor with the sweetness up front and a light hop presence in the background. Dry clean finish. Good one. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 16, 2009 THOUGHTS: A little more like a barley wine than a DIPA. I like my DIPAs sweet, but this was ridiculous. The hops really didn’t show up until the last possible moment as I swallowed. And then they disappeared. Not a bad beer, just a really awful DIPA. Rather cloying. Hid alcohol incredibly well. Negative point for being a poor example of the style.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured slightly hazy, dark orangey amber with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good to fair lacing. The aroma was light to moderate caramel malt; moderate resinous and orangey hops; maple syrup and slight rubbery notes. The initial flavor was very sweet, slightly bitter and a little acidic; while the finish was extremely sweet and bitter with a surprisingly short duration. There was caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar, orangey hops, oranges, honey, then resinous hops and slight rubbery notes. The medium body was a bit syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic and slightly metallic finish. Holdwine (909), Beertimore, Maryland, USA

This bomber series from Clipper City is quite good. Starts with a mixed sweet malt showing caramel, maple syrup. Then on comes the citrus and pine hoppy points and ends with a very pleasant bitternes. Keep up the good work!
