Dacrza (148), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Sep 23, 2007 Ten percent ABV is a stumbling block to taste... we shall "sea"...pours a thick brown, unfiltered with a short head in a weizenbock glass...chips of sediment apparent in the lower glass...a bit of carbonation with consistent lacing....malt and bready yeast aromas--more bock than weizen...when chewed, burrows into the lower back of the tongue--a bit of alcoholic burn too, aggressive at the top of tongue...a nice mixture of heavy malt sweetness and yeast...provides a punch and a thirst-quenching cool at the same time...the alcohol may be a slight turn-off..okay, it is...the beer challenges a neophyte beer rater--the style itself is unique...I find this batch of C.C. brew reviews in general to hit on the theme of malt and alcohol...another beer I would drink again, if not recommend for a discussion starter
BigBeer45 (461), Troy, Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2008 Pours a hazy ruby with dark off-white to tan bubbles, has brown and darker hues at the sides, lots of floaties, decent amount of effervescence in the glass, this does not have as much head as some other weizen bocks sampled but I believe that may be because of the 10% alcohol, aromas of wheat, bananas, bread and dark fruit fragrances of plum and raisins, some dark bread, faint alcohol aroma shows up as the beer warms, flavors of plums, raisins, and dark fruit sweetness along with dark malt and dark bread, has some dark bread crust flavor, alcohol tastes sweet and dries out the tongue, not much alcohol warmth but it is present, more then medium mouth feel on the palate, felt a little under carbonated, not bad. DrBayern (923), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Aug 18, 2008 Date: 08/18/08, 12 oz. bottle
Aroma - Bananas, brown sugar, spice, yeasty bread, faint alcohol
Appearance - Hazy deep copper, substantial creamy, light tan head that settle to a 1/8" layer that persists, average lace
Flavor - Sweet malt flavors of caramel and dark fruit are front and center, some spicy bitterness comes through slowly, and a distant tartness noted at the finish.
Palate - Medium body and carbonation, ridh and smooth, tends toward being sweet
Overall - A good weizenbock, lots of flavor, very drinkable. My only complaint is that it could be a little drier. NomDeBeer (129), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Aug 18, 2008 The flavor is abrasive; sweet bananas, alcohol, and a bit of spicy yeast. It’s pretty good, but this just isn’t my thing. AndrewKScott (319), Lemont, Illinois, USA Aug 14, 2008 Deep dark brown pour with a tannish head. Fruity aroma with some notes of caramel and spice. Roasted malt, caramel and some burnt flavors. This lacks the overpowering sweetness found in a lot of bocks and doppelbocks, and instead is surprisingly well-balanced by the bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is thick and carbonation is lively. Alcohol is noticeable at times but it doesn’t take away from the beer. It’s pretty good, I’d recommend it to people stangger (106), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 7, 2008 Deep brown pour. Rich, caramely aroma, refreshing different. Taste is sweet and malty. Powerful stuff.
