vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Mar 7, 2008 From a fresh cask. Dark black in color with a thin beige head. Aroma is roasted malt with dark chocolate notes. Flavor is roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Very faint sweetness. There’s enough bitterness in the aftertaste to keep it interesting. Creamy mouthfeel. I’ve also had Peg Leg from the bottle. The cask version is richer in flavor and drinkability. My rating for the bottle version would be .5 lower.
peter (349), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 4, 2008 Dark pour with tan head. Nose is marshmallows, and roast. A little heavy handed with the black patent (looks like it was actually roasted barley) Lacks the thick mouth feel I want from an IS. Pleasant, but nothing to go out looking for. sonicstylee (12), cayuga, New York, USA Sep 30, 2008 pours dark and seemingly thick, smells hard of roasted malts and chocolate. thin light tan head. thin mouthfeel, not quite as full as most imperials, almost a hint of smokey-ness.a quality beer nonetheless. kevd193213 (335), Coventry, Rhode Island, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle. Black pour with a medium coffee head. Aroma of caramel and molasses. Taste of malt and chocolate with a slight hoppy finish. A little thin for an imperial, but very enjoyable (and affordable). bigtaster (116), Grand Rapids, USA Sep 22, 2008 Pours vlack with quickly receeding tan head. Sweet aroma of dark fruits and black coffee. Watery thin body for an inmperial stout. Alot of malt carmal sweetness, not balanced and definitly not and Imperial Stout. RedXIII (84), Powell, Ohio, USA Sep 22, 2008 My only quarrel with this beer is it’s "imperial" title. More of a stout, but there’s nothing standard about this beer. Aroma bursts of roasted oatmeal and chocolate. Not thick like an imperial but very creamy, smooth and flavorful. Taste is milky chocolate and malty coffee. Very drinkable and not sure why it’s not rated higher.
