eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Dec 22, 2006 Pours orange-amberish color with a nice head, very nice continuous foamy lacing. Good head retention. Aroma was citrus and pine. Flavor followed suit, medium malt body underneath, light bready notes. Soft bitter finish, soft / gentle hoppy beer. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Dec 20, 2006 Copper body, small off-white head, nose contains some toffee and some piney hops. Start is dominated by sweet malts; moderate bitterness in the finish. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Dec 20, 2006 Dark copper pour, khaki colored head with thick, sticky lacing. Fresh fruity, candy-like aroma, hints of licorice. Full bodied flavor with some licorice, Christmas spice, some smokiness and finishes with some citrus in the background. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Overall decent - but slightly muddled. Thanks to Aurelius for this one - brought back from a recent trip to Baltimore. jonnabrix (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 20, 2006 Nice clear pour, with fluffy white head. Great piney hop aroma. The flavor strikes a good balance of earthy hops and caramel maltiness. Quite drinkable. SynergyXJ (506), Blacksburg, Virginia, USA Dec 19, 2006 Bottle Copper pour with small head and good retention. Hoppy aroma, slight maltyness. Piney citrusy hop flavor with a bit of malt to follow. Good brew. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Dec 18, 2006 From a 12 oz. bottle with a blurb on the neck label and a notched best before date on the bottom of the front label, Mar.07.
Poured a clear amber with a frothy, rocky off-white head, good retention, small amount of laced sticking.
Aromas of pine and citrus, caramelized malts and a subtle toasted grain, and brief whiffs of woody alcohol.
Good carbonation and a crisp, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant ESB taste, the hops are more upfront than a lot of ESB’s, piney and citrus with a little tongue numbing bitterness, sweet caramelized malts, traces of toasted grain, even barer traces of butteriness, and little alcohol flavor towards the end and a dry hoppy, sweet malty finish.
Quaffable, easy drinkability, not a bad ESB, I guess it earns it’s Imperial title, hopped upped and higher ABV than most ESB’s.
brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Dec 18, 2006 (bottle) Copper body with small but lasting tan head that left great lacing on the glass. Wonderful aroma of fresh hops, pine, and malt. The flavor has the same elements of the aroma; hops taste fresh and clean without being too bitter with moderately sweet malts that strike a perfect balance. Some alcohol warms it up on the back. Medium-bodied on the palate. cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Dec 16, 2006 12 oz. bottle via trade with AxlLives - Pours a deep amber color with a two finger off white head. Nice lacing. Has a light malt aroma. Flavor has a nice balance of caramel malt and smooth hop bitterness. A smooth, medium body beer. Very easy to drink. Thanks Bryan.
