Commercial Description:
Our "winter warmer" ale, brewed with copious helpings of English malts and US and English hops, a ruddy hued "Imperial ESB" in style. Full malty flavors dancing with powerful hop aromas and a lingering, firm hop bitterness. Seasonally available from mid October to February.

(12oz bottle) Courtesy of Oakes. Pours a dissipating, white head with a copper body. This has that same strange aroma as the loose cannon - mild malt, bready. Decent hops I guess but overall this isn’t terribly overwhelming. 6/3/7/3/14

Smells of bitter and slightly sour hops, quite strong. Taste is heavy bitter hops, like an esb, with some sour notes as well with a decent malt back. Very nice well-rounded ale that hides the 7%+ alcohol very well

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a large head. Good head retention and poor lacing. Aroma is nutty with caramel malts and some fruity notes. Taste is grainy with caramel and bitter hops. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a little bit of a bubbly film on the surface. Aromas are sweet: malt and fruit (apples and oranges). Flavor is just plain heavy in all areas... alcohol, malt and hops all come through as overbearing at different points and the flavors don’t blend together well enough for my tastebuds to get really excited. This is kind of an ongoing complaint I have with the Heavy Seas beers. Still, this one is better than most I have had by them.

On tap at NABC Medium brown with reddish hues. Substantial off-white/orange head. Malty nose, with a touch of citrusy hops like orange. Also has some spice, possibly coriander. Taste is malty with a complex hop profile that starts off citrus, progresses to earthy, and then finishes citrus. Moderately heavy mouth feel, which makes it perfect for winter. Overall, this is a great winter beer for hopheads.

Bottle sample at the Blacklick Wine and Spirits tasting on 1/8/09. Clearish amber color with a medium off-white head. Malty, somewhat spicy aroma with some hop. Hop is more pronounced in the flavor with a nice malt balance and bitter finish. Ambitious brew that is pretty impressive.
