En fût au Clocktower. Couleur ambrée pâle, mousse blanche. Arôme de malt, en bouche malt caramel, houblon. Finale pas très amère et un peu sucrée. Bonne mais je m’attandais à plus.

Fruity, caramel malt with nut smell. Light amber red with a thin white head. light body with soft carbonation. Sweet caramel start, toffee, grain and rye witha bitter stong alcohol finish and a citrus aftertaste. I found the aftertaste offputting and overall I nursed it a bit.

Use to have this one on cask back in the day, but had it recently on draft. Pours a clean amber colour with a small off-white head and decent lacing. The nose was fresh and nicely hoppy. Great crisp mouthfeel with a hoppy taste and grainy aftertaste. Nicely balanced between the hop and the malt (which give it a little burnt grain to it). I really like this one as it is a nice bitter and great session beer.

On tap at bank street location. Not the best nose. No hoppy taste like I was expecting

On tap at the brewpub. Nice clear copper amber with a decent white head that laces the glass. Aroma has some good toasty caramalts and burnt toffee, with minor hop presence in background. Flavour is very good, same burnt toffee upfront, orange ester playing a significant background role, and rounding out with some minor hop flavour. Residual sweetness and malt afternotes. Very enjoyable, I could drink a lot of this.

In short: A grainy toasted amber ale with some leafy hops. Decent beer.
How: Tap at brewpub, Bank street location
The look: Mostly clear orange-copper body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose has some timid leafy hops over some toasted cereals. Taste packs a lot of grainy toasted cereals (more than a true British bitter is supposed to), dry crusty bread, a bit of crunchy caramel, notes of plain cookies, light notes of tree bark and modest a amount of leafy hops. Bitterness level is low. I would not call it refreshing but the beer doesn’t feel sweet and remains quite drinkable. Not exciting but not bad at all, actually a lot better than what I expected considering the reputation of this brewpub. It’s still pretty pathetic that Clocktower is the best (and only) brewpub that our Canada national capital has to offer. So anyway the brewpub is called Clocktower and they do have a clock tower over the pub. I was the big hand pointing to a number and the little hand pointing to another number, that means it was time for a beer.

[on tap at brewpub] Sweet caramel aroma with some fruity esters, though clean. Clear dark copper with a thin white cover and ring. Weak, sweet flavour with toffee that quickly trails off to a moderate bitterness. Clean. Light body, moderate carbonation, clean finish. A clean beer, apparently.

on tap at brewpub. clear deep golden with a nice off-white head, good retention and lacing. aroma and taste is malty, grainy, rye with a great hop profile - citrusy, herbal, grassy and peppery, medium finish. average carbonation, light to medium body. good brew.

Pours a wood brown with little or no head. Aroma is leather bitterness with malt. Taste is good malt body with a semi-dry bitterness. Moderate to low bitterness. The flavours are not pronounced and you have to fish for them. Well balanced but was looking for something more.

Okay amber body with little head, what do you expect from a brewpub brew on tap! Yet, the flavour is all right, plenty of malts and a bit of caramel and hops. Just all right.
