argo0 (6227), Washington DC, USA Sep 20, 2004 Clear amber body with beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, earthy, some peach. Taste is medium sweet, earthy, some peach, faint cinnamon. Light-medium body, some carbonation/acidity. On cask, the beer has light-medium body and is smooth. Rastacouere (5328), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Nov 7, 2004 Clear amber, light sticky off-white head. Dry malt aroma, nice balance though hops are a bit too subtle for the style. Crisp palate, nice hay flavor, mild woody hop finish. A bit astringent. Thin-medium, fine carbonation. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA Nov 9, 2004 Pre-tasting dinner with tiggmtl, CapFlu, Rastacouere, radiomgb. Sample, from cask and keg pints. Keg has big diacetyl nose and a bit of pine...cask is more woody and cherry-accented. Keg is chalkier, drier on the tongue, and quite bitter...cask is still sharp, but much maltier and fuller. I’m going to average scores here...not bad overall, and I definitely preferred the cask. MartinT (4373), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 26, 2005 The Lure: From the keg, filtered. Proud peaches and oranges coat the caramel and butterscotch malty sweetness. Mostly fruity with a few citrusy hop protrusions.
The Festivities: A pleasant wooden hop flavor follows into an important resinous bitterness. Peachy fruitiness and caramel maltiness blends well with the grassy and flowery hops, but overall there is an ugly yeast signature to this which is apparent, in part, due to the thinness of the body. Still, their best beer that day.
Transcendence: Simple sustenance is appreciated once in a while. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 8, 2004 Butterscotch, caramel aroma. Diacetyl far more noticeable on keg than on cask. Fairly hoppy also. Copper-orange coloured with generous head on cask but thin head from the keg.
Mellow and malty with a balancing finishing bitterness. On cask, the fruity, malty flavours are more pronounced and the hops also have more attack. Medium-light body also feels fuller on cask. From the keg, I’d give this about a 2.8. Score as noted is for the cask version. At the brewpub with CapFlu, muzzlehatch, radiomgb and Rastacouere.
