We guess that most of you, like all of us here at Clown Shoes, aren’t even close to being on that list and yet dream every now and then, billionaire dreams. Our fourth anniversary beer was crafted to make you feel wealthy: a sweet, rich and heavily malted Barley Wine Ale brewed with English yeast then aged in European Cognac barrels.

22 oz bottle. Thanks Eric! The pour is more of a dark dark coppery color with a nice white head and no lacing to be found. The aroma is really sweet. There is a strong caramel malt presence and not a whole lot from the cognac barrel here. The flavor is a by more boozy but maintains that sweet dominance. The caramel and malts just meld pretty well and the finish is a bit hot. The mouth feel is a bit light with light carbonation and a decent, but really sweet lightly lingering aftertaste ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours barely translucent chocolate brown with a decent light tan head. Fruity at a is sweet but not cloying. Fruit dominates the flavor but lets woody hop and malt notes share the stage. Mouthfeel features firm body and OK fizz. Feel like a billionaire!

Pours brown with a foamy, white head that lasts a while. Nose is malty and boozy with dried fig notes. Taste is sweet. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Nice brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

More English style with strong aromas and flavors of caramelized malt with a tint of bitterness on the finish. The smell is sweet but that doesn’t translate strongly in the mouth. Well balanced and boozy. Full and smooth palate. Dark caramel color.

Clown Shoes has become a top 25-er of mine. I love their beers, their labels, and actively seek out every new one I can find. This one was hazy dark brown with tan head. Somewhat sweet, heavy on the tongue, with molasses, cognac, oak, earthy woody notes, and fine tobacco. Heavy yet smooth finish. Outstanding.

Pours a cloudy brown with a nice head. Syrupy cognac and malt aroma. Strong. Thick bodied. Super sweet. Kind of the richest thing imaginable. Gets a little cloying towards the end.

Well done. A very tasty beer. Subtle flavour of toffee but not too sweet. Worth a revisit. Nice colouring and head. Would recommend for a barley wine aficionado.

I totally pass on this one going forward. So far I have not been a fan of clown shoes.

June 26, 2015 - bottle from AV3. Muddy brown pour with some head. Aroma was caramel, booze and spice. Taste had the caramel sweetness with some dark fruit, wood and spice. Finished with a rich alcohol / cognac that had the right amount of heat.

From bottle - Murky brown with a small creamy beige head, didn’t stick around. Flavor is just big rich English barleywine. Pretty sweet, but the spicy alcohol and old wood dry things out pretty well. There is some sweet rich cognac in the finish.
