22 oz bottle. Thanks Eric! The pour is more of a dark dark coppery color with a nice white head and no lacing to be found. The aroma is really sweet. There is a strong caramel malt presence and not a whole lot from the cognac barrel here. The flavor is a by more boozy but maintains that sweet dominance. The caramel and malts just meld pretty well and the finish is a bit hot. The mouth feel is a bit light with light carbonation and a decent, but really sweet lightly lingering aftertaste ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle pours dark opaque earthy brown with medium head. Nose is earthy bready grain and dark fruit, not much spirit, subtle nose overall. Taste is slick sticky sweet dark multigrain bread, maple, caramel, touch of booze. Finish is sweet, stale maple, touch of plum, dark fruit. Eh.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a dark copper brown with a tight foamy khaki head that slowly settles. Aroma is sweet malts a little nutty with caramel some dark fruit like plum raisin. Taste is sweet sugars with raisin prune and burnt caramel subtle spice. Palate is full sticky and warming. Really having a tough time with finding the barrel in this, but it still taste pretty good and is a nice sipper.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Jason. Exceedingly deep amber color with copper edges; light-tan foam leaves some sheety lacing behind. Aroma has lots of dark fruit with a slightly tropical edge to them. Rum? Yeah, rum. Boozy. Slight piña colada vibe with a strong residual sweetness of toffee & unfermented sugars. Did I mention rum? Taste is so, so, so very sweet. Cloyingly so, even within the realm of barley wines. Toffee, anise, dates, some tropical rum notes. Heavy tannic back-end, lots of woodiness rushes in. Astringent finish, gets very boozy with warm. Hot, even. Super sweet, super hot. I would have thought for sure, this was rum barrel aged. Apparently it’s cognac. Dafuq. Either way, it was enjoyed after Alpine Great, so it stood no chance. Even on a fresh palate, this is a pretty poorly executed beer.

Little cloudy dark purple beer, aery beige head, unstable, dissipates quickly. Aroma: alcohol, sugary, apple sauce, yeasty, sour apples. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very sweet, sugary, caramel, lots of vanilla, ripe banana, alcohol. Aftertaste: sugary, vanilla, caramel, sweet, crème brûlée impressions.

VERY Ennglish...from the lack of hops, to the yeast, to the lighter than most American brews barrel character. I’ll admit to hoping the cognac would come through a little more, but it was still very pleasant. A good but not great carmelly toffee and vanilla and fruit barleywine. Best attribute was the lack of heat for such a strong beer, and the silky smooth body. Won’t be back at $16 a bottle, though. More cognac, please :)"

Bottle. The pour is a nice caramel and amber color. The aroma is a big barleywine, some hints of toffee. The taste is rather smooth. I don't get any of the cognac barrel at all though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared with Bruce and Dan. Aroma is wild. Cognac is definitely there, slight olive, caramel, toffee, and belgian chocolate. Pours brown with a small beige head. Taste is nice and nutty with toffee, malts, caramel, light chocolate, brandy, and graham cracker. Very nice English Barleywine. I was impressed.

glennmastrange (2306) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JUL 27, 2014
Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of roasted and caramel, moderate to heavy cooked orange, light dough and broth for the yeast, with toffee, faint anise and pepper. Head is small, frothy, creamy light tan with spotty lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy medium brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and light acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet and lightly acidic. Palate is medium to full, oily, with a soft carbonation and moderately alcoholic finish. Excellent slow sipping Barley Wine with a huge malt backbone.
