COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What should we call our Russian Imperial Stout? Black Unicorn? Soul Dragon? Nohhh. Letís combine them and create the ultimate mythical creature: Blaecorn Unidragon.

Imbued with a monstrous amount of dark malt and aggressive hops, Blaecorn Unidragon is a powerful and complex brew designed to improve with age.

Bottled 7/8/13 and poured 3/31/14. A bit of age on this one, but not much. $11.99 bomber poured into all that was clean, a shaker pint (agh). Appearance: Pitch black with the slightest bit of ruby on the edges. A surprising two finger, creamy tan head on it that stays around. That was unexpected to see from a 12.5% brew. Thereís even a wall of lacing for most of the glass! Looks phenomenal, especially given the ABV. Smell: Smokey, roasty, chocolatey, and some caramel. Really nice smelling beer. The caramel sweetness knocks it up a bit because I didnít see it coming. Smokey character is also fairly significant. Very nice on the nose. Taste/feel: Oh yeah, thatís a big one. Blaecorn Unidragon has that sort of tangy yeast or whatever-the-hell-it-is thing to it and thatís the first thing I notice. Thereís a medium/heavy feel with a fairly light carbonation. The flavor is a disappointment, at least when itís fresh out of the fridge, which strangely enough is normally where I prefer my RISís temperature at. The taste on Blaecorn Unidragon is strangely light. You get the "big" feel of it with the alcohol warmth and the body and all of that, but the flavor -- at least when itís cold -- is just a deep roastiness with a slight smokiness on the finish. The bottle mentions "aggressive hops" and I suppose I get the slightest bit of earthy hops on the finish, as well as in the burps -- it gives it a black ale sort of vibe. I think that the rating for this beer is about spot-on. Is it a good beer? Hell yeah, itís a good beer. $12 for a bomber good? No. Iíd rather spend the extra $6 and get a legendary brew like Imperial Biscotti Break from Evil Twin, which is a mind blower. Blaecorn Unidragon is the very definition of a tasty, well-made, by-the-books sort of Russian Imperial Stout. I really do quite enjoy it, just not at its current price point, which I donít expect to change. All-in-all, itís a tough call for this one. I canít recommend cellaring it just because itís already got a fairly mild flavor, but who knows, maybe itíd be a good idea (bottle recommends it). The nose on this brew had me very excited, but the flavor just left me a bit more than content. Roast, coffee, smoke, and a bit of earthy hoppiness. I like hoppiness in a black ale (strangely enough), but I never seem to love it in Imperial Stouts. I suppose Iíd say... try this one for yourself and decide. It looks phenomenal, it smells fantastic, and has a great feel... but the taste has me wanting something more.

A very nice russian imperial stout. Pours a deep slightly muddy brown with a light brown head. Smells of lots of chocolate and marzipan. More of those in the taste along with some coffee and creaminess. Doesn't taste like 12.5%. Had in the bottle in Blue Rock Ridge Park.

Aroma: rum, dark malts, dried fruits, alcohol. Appearance: dark color, no head. Taste: medium bitterness (alcohol and roasted malts), dried red fruits, rum, chocolate, malty backbone, dark malts. Palate: full body and low carbonation, nice roasted bitter finish, oily texture. Overall: I am a not huge fan of imperial stouts, but this stuff is quite nice. Nice complex taste.

Bottle. Notes of Earth, cocoa, roast and dark fruit. Taste was similar, with hints of smoke. Nice bold, hop flavor, and good, thick, body. Clown Shoes is on the rise.

Pour from bottle - pitch black with thick tan head Aroma - deep roasted malt, piney hops, raisins, maraschino cherries, concorde grapes, coffee Taste - sweet candy fruity taste to burnt, bitter malt and hint of citrus sourness. Palate - oily slick mouthfeel with medium-long bitter, sour finish. Heavy full body. Good imperial stout. Virtually no booze taste for such a high abv. Cellaring this so Iím excited to see what time does to it.

On tap at Cloverleaf. Pours a dark brown color with a caramel colored head. Big hop profile. Borders on a black IPA. But plenty of chocolate and roast to bring it back to a stout. Very tasty. Especially for hop heads.

Aromas of roast, chocolate, dry cherries, coffee, and some booze. Black with a lasting light tan head. Initial nuances of surface-ripened cheese, turning into heavily roasted flavors of bitter chocolate and dark coffee. Full bodied, very smooth, finishes with notes of charred berry fruit. A complex array of roasted malts, bitter hops, and dry fruity notes, finishing with a warming alcohol sensation.
