3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
13th May 2012
Post CBC hangover in the Hotel and - ’Oh crap I have bought too many bottles again!’ . Opaque black beer, good tan head. Palate is soft and viscous. Fine carbonation. Rich dark malts, a little salty. Not too much coffee or chocolate here but there are well buried red berry fruits. Warming dry finish. A bit too salty to be great.

Served on draft at Timberwood Grill, Charlottesville, VA, 5/7/12. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, tobacco, chocolate and an astringent finish. The taste is roasted malts, tobacco, chocolate and leafy notes. Chewy texture, full bodied. Nice impy stout.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Big roasted nose on this black beer. Some nice hop aroma eminates from the tight tan foam. Thick mouthfeel has nice black bitterness. Dry finish is well balanced and leaves a delicious trail of dark malts. This is a fine Imperial. Looking forward to more Clown Shoes beer

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. It pours a dark cola brown with a very tall and frothy brown head. Looks nice in the glass. The aroma has raisins, alcohol heat, some coffee and cocoa powder. Theres some deeper notes of dark chocolate as well. The flavor has some nice hints of fig and raisin fruitiness followed by a stronger backbone of chocolate and roast. The alcohol is definitely noticeable, but not as much as the ABV would suggest. The finish is nicely roasted and a bit woody. It got richer as it warmed to room temp. I enjoyed this one. A very solid RIS.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Don’t like it as well as the vampire slayer, this one is a bit rougher. Slight orange highlight to this, some head that vanishes quickly with dots left on the side of the glass. Nose is dark fruit, coffee, a bit of chocolate, a bittersweet sort of nose. Palate is in your face, chocolate malt hefty up front along with alcohol burn. This one needs some aging.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours black with a soapy tan head that fades pretty quickly. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and tons of piney hop aroma. Sweet malt flavor with a long dry finish. Pretty nice beer.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. The look is dark, black in color, with a foamy beige colored head. The smell is roast, almost smoky, definite hop presence, and burnt malts. The taste is too jumbled, roasty hop mix that does not seem right.
