3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. The look is dark, black in color, with a foamy beige colored head. The smell is roast, almost smoky, definite hop presence, and burnt malts. The taste is too jumbled, roasty hop mix that does not seem right.

I think this has got to be the coolest looking unicorn Iíve ever seen. Just looking at the label makes me want to listen to Wolfmother for some reason. Anyway, I need to hurry with this because Anaís waiting on me.
In the glass, this Imperial Stout is solid black with a semi-dense head thatís on the darker end of the spectrum of medium brown. I was pleasantly surprised to see such a beautiful beer. The aroma is, initially, what youíd expect of an Imperial Stout, but it has a twist in the aroma that whispers a uniqueness. The aroma of chocolate barely hovers over a fine, alcoholic roasted malt, but has a spiciness thatís hard to identify.
The first thing you notice about this beer once it hits the mouth, despite its roasted character and alcohol presence, is actually its mouth feel. Them, an almost chemical or plastic-like flavor digs its way into your taste buds, then following the alcohol into the roof of your throat in the finish. Itís definitely potent. Fairly thin in body for a stout, even an Imperial, very soft in the mouth but harsh on the palate.
Intense chocolate, alcohol, and an herbal perfume dominate this beer. Heavy on the hops, no doubt, this whammy can thank its bouquet of hops for the oddness that makes the warm, alcohol-laden roast malt overtones so, well, weird. Still, itís very drinkable if youíre down for a strong drink and looking for something out of the norm for an Imperial Stout.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Capital Ale House. The very dark stout poured with a modest head that stayed with stout. This was a complex ale that was most enjoyable. Some wood and licorice initially with the stout. A bitter fizz was experienced with the medium body ale. Carbonation was average. A very good beverage to just drink and analyze. Smooth finish with some smokey notes. A wonderful stout to try.

22oz bottle in a snifter. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma strong of roasted malts, a little coffee and dark chocolate, plus a good amount of bitter hops. Flavor the same with lots of roasted and hop notes. Smooth texture. A good beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
5/2/12. 22oz bomber. Very dark pour, black Iíd say, under a small brown head that fades fast but laces plenty. Huge aroma with tons of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruits and berries, and a good hop kick. Rich flavor with tons of coffee, dark chocolate, and roast, as well as dark fruits, more berries, more fruitiness, and big hop character. If I was told so, Iíd probably agree that this could be a huge black IPA... but we wonít start that debate, ey?

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber pours an opaque dark brown with a tiny tan head but good lacing. Smells more like an IIPA than an Imperial stout, with lots of piney and citrus hops and some chocolate on the nose. Aroma is not as hoppy as the smell, and has the requisite roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate for this style. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Taste is sweet and chocolatey with a bitter finish. Body is full with only slight carbonation. Mouthfeel is creamy. A very good Russian Imperial Stout. Iíd like to compare this to their American Imperial stout, but that one will have to wait until tomorrow, since this one got me so pleasantly enfeebled.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bomber from Half time. Pours black with a large creamy/bubbly dark tan head. Aroma is very smooth roast dark malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. Unusually there seems to be detectable hop. Type uncertain. Maybe resin. Full bodied and more. Flavor is very many things. Complex isnít in it. Thereís chocolate, coffee, vanilla, resin, really burnt and smooth malt. Itís like chewing food. Finishes all those flavors and more. Amazing stuff.
