What should we call our Russian Imperial Stout? Black Unicorn? Soul Dragon? Nohhh. Let’s combine them and create the ultimate mythical creature: Blaecorn Unidragon.

Imbued with a monstrous amount of dark malt and aggressive hops, Blaecorn Unidragon is a powerful and complex brew designed to improve with age.

Aromas of roast, chocolate, dry cherries, coffee, and some booze. Black with a lasting light tan head. Initial nuances of surface-ripened cheese, turning into heavily roasted flavors of bitter chocolate and dark coffee. Full bodied, very smooth, finishes with notes of charred berry fruit. A complex array of roasted malts, bitter hops, and dry fruity notes, finishing with a warming alcohol sensation.

Tart cherry, alc, and chocolate aromas. Foamy beige head and black body. Dark black coffee notes some heavy alc flavors and minor roasty dark berry. Smooth and a little bitter on the palate.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2014 $9.55 for the 650 mL bottle purchased from Leary’s. To undersized tasting snifter, it pours a mahogany-tinted blackish brown with which creamy ringed sienna head 1 finger in length stood. Aromas of blackberries, peppercorns, poppy seeds, Scotch tape, cocoa powder, unripe strawberries, cucumbers, and cigarette smoke. Tastes as everything described with the addition of molasses, grill char, minced garlic, roasted pears, and booze -- a lot of it. Was thoroughly enjoyable for the first couple of sips, then its alcohol took over and nearly blinded me with stinging heat. Syrupy and bittersweet. By no means a bad beer, simply a thick, big imperial stout not intended for solely one person. I suggest inviting friends over to help you finish this. Not easy all by yourself.

Bottle, pours black, slight brown highlights, tight light-espresso head. At first whiff, nose recalls Bells Expedition: winter fruits, baker’s chocolate, suggestions of coffee and herbs. Taste is dark chocolate, slight berry, a little licorice, and a surprising hop profile that kicks in on the finish. Mouthfeel is just short of silky. Super-solid.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Near-black with a dense brown head. Aroma and palate are quite heavy on dark chocolate, but there is hearty amounts of roasted malt in balance. Early on I got some spicy nuances. Quite a bitter finish. Silky mouthfeel. Delicious.

Bottle. Pours black with a lasting small creamy tan head. Aroma is dark fruit, cocoa, lots of chocolate, roasted malt, hops, mild coffee and a hint of smoke.Taste is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is near full, texture is smooth, carbonation is soft+. Finishes dry with lots of roasted malt. I’d easily be able to empty the bottle all by myself - fine drinkability.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. This is going to my head already. Initially a promising chocolate aroma which, once settled, became metallic. A fairly beautiful beer with a fluffy cocoa head. Nice palate. The taste strikes me a metallic chocolate so kind of good.
