5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
It poured inky black, with not much of a tan head which left minimal lacing. The nose was molasses, chocolate and faint wisps of resiny hops. There is a subtle smokiness which blends nicely with the rich, dark flavors (think of a bourbon soaked coffee bean with chocolate). Seriously, it starts off like an adult’s chocolate milk. Rich, smooth with a black patent malt flavor, heavy dark hops, with a hint of maple.

What a showing! This stout springs with hops that follow a slow meandering path down the back of the taste buds, only for them to sit and relax for a nice long stay. The gravity is easily held without over reaching. The color is deep with a chocolate foam rim. What a great beer. I just drank this with a friend who runs a beer department of a liquor store and he had originally turned it down, but he says it will be in stock by the end of the week. Great beer.

From notes. Sampled at screw city beer fest. This is like a a bourbon soaked coffee bean covered in chocolate. Some burnt oats and dark hops round out the balance. I want more.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with a tight mocha brown head. Smells of chocolate hints, a bit of coffee/espresso, a touch of licorice, and a decent bit of alcohol. Tastes of licorice, hints of chocolate and a touch of alcohol, but it is hardly noticeable for its percentage. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon finishes a little bit sticky, a little bit bitter, and with almost no hint of alcohol.

Looks and smells decent. Pretty easy to drink. The flavor is a bit sweet and a slight hint of chocolate but really quite tasty.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 26, 2012 Bombers from Smith’s, Capone’s, and Blue Dog. Pours thick jet black with 2-finger khaki head and spare lace for a beer this big. Nose is just lovely; a medley of rich roasty chocolate malt, cacao, molasses, cashews, blackberries, hops, and coffee. Tastes rich, with a huge chocolate and black patent malt bill, heavy resiny hops, big cacao and molasses, some coffee and maple, and cashew and walnut hints. This one gets a bit hot late, but is a joy to behold. The hops may be too massive and assertive for some, as it comes off a bit like an Imperial Black IPA, but for this worked for me. Another Alpha Klausy beer that gets it right.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Big roasted nose on this black beer. Some nice hop aroma eminates from the tight tan foam. Thick mouthfeel has nice black bitterness. Dry finish is well balanced and leaves a delicious trail of dark malts. This is a fine Imperial. Looking forward to more Clown Shoes beer.

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2012 Great stout from Clown Shoes. Tried it from bottle (bomber). This one is a really great mix of malt flavors with a bit of hop spice and liquor thrown in to the aroma/taste. Far superior to their other stout (vampire slayer) IMO. Chocolate is at the forefront here, in both aroma and taste. It starts off as almost an adult chocolate milk. After that the roasty and hoppy tastes come forward, and they mix well.
