A unique stout, no question. The usual super-dark brown almost black color. Aroma is....ginger and cocoa I suppose? Taste is definitely ginger, cocoa and cinnamon. The ginger jumps out the most and gives it a spicy bite. The ginger hangs on the tongue well after. Worth a try, but probably not worth a repeat.

Bottle. Sweet vanilla and cinnamon aroma. Dark black stout appearance with a small brownish head. Vanilla, cinnamon, espresso coffee are present - quite sweet. Rich and full bodied with some warming alcohol sensations. Spicey notes in the finish. Enjoyable.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of chai, cardamom, cinnamon. Pours black with a thin, foamy tan head. Taste is chocolate, chai, vanilla, cinnamon and coffee. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation and a lingering chocolatey finish. Really enjoyed this one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
650ml bottle from Rayans in Andersonsville. Cellar aged 3 months. Very dark brown, almost black pour, with a bit of a tan head. Aroma has big holiday spices; ginger, nutmeg, allspice. Also there is bittersweet chocolate and caramel. Led by Christmas stuff. Taste is of bakers chocolate, ginger, other spices, caramel, and perhaps some chiles if squinting. The blend is solid and the body is medium-to-full. More carbonated than expected, with a bit of an alcohol presence. Finishes sweetly spicy, with some bitterness way back. Interesting to have a fuller bodied brew with this level of spice. It is fine, but not much of a fan. 13.4

Pretty good. Spices not as prevalent as I hoped. Overall, I hope that the spices would be more prevalent and balanced with the stout.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the Craft Beer Advent Calendar
Black color, with medium sized brownish head. Lean sweetish Imperial Stout, less full bodied than expected, although the alcohol can be perceived; it has a good dark malt and chocolate character, with a dynamic berry vein.
Quite easy to drink despite the strength, and very enjoyable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is very spicy, with the chai tea spices upfront, especially cardamom and cinnamon. Flavour is more stout-ish, with notes of chai tea, cocoa and vanilla. Spicy, medium body, with a chocolatey and vanilla finish. Solid for what it is, but not really my thing.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I like it but the spices are out of place. The nose is rich and spicy with a ton of espresso and cardamom present. Cinnamon, ginger and vanilla float in with a heavy roasted note. Balance is out of whack. Rich and smooth but an extremely offputting spice aftertaste detracts from the overall beer.

Bomber. Black with a medium sized brown head. Cardamom, chocolate milk, vanilla and malty aromas. Sweet lactose taste with a mild dry cardamom , slight medicinal aftertaste. Heavier body with a sticky feel.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 oz. bottle poured at home. Day 21 of the craft beer advent calendar. Pours dark brown with a tan head that died out quickly. Smells strongly of spices, notably ginger. Taste is not my favorite; strong spices (ginger and cinnamon?) coupled with a bitter finish. This is the second Clown Shoes beer I’ve tried and I’ve been disappointed with both. Spicy stouts not my favorite I guess.

Not bad, not bad at all! Chocolatey, with strong notes of cardamom and cinnamon. You can definitely taste the alcohol in this one, a hearty strong 10% that tastes exactly like it.
All in all, this one was actually fairly restrained, much more sessionable than I’d expect given the powerful mix of spices and adjuncts going into this beer.
Finally, as a bottle caps collector, my hat is off once more to Clown Shoes brewery: Y’all have some of the nicest bottle caps on the block.
