3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bomber from Total Wine, Durham. Roiling dark brown cola pour, with a thick, chalky head. Strong hops and what seem like toasted cinnamon malts in the nose, somethign dry and nutty in there too. Thick and lively carbonation, nothing cloying about the mouthfeel despite the heaviness. Taste is imperial hoppy brown crossed with Christmas cookie, loads of toasted malts, caramel, all back up by ridiculous hopping. Warming, deceptively easy drinker, pretty good all around.

bottle. muddy deep brown, almost black, beer with a small, creamy, tan head. sweet aroma of brown sugar, creamed coffee, and toasted nuts. lots of ’brown’ in here. loaded with nutty and toasted notes, caramelized sugars, root beer. modest on the hops. warming, but i wouldn’t guess at its 10 abv. i like this beer and this style.

All in all I wasn’t too impressed. the aroma and appearance held such promise but the drink itself just didn’t deliver.aroma is sweet malts without much hop. it wasn’t sickening sweet, until i sipped it. then i just felt like they were using the sweetness to hide the 10% abv. I was hoping ot get more roast - more brown ale than just a sweet boozy concoction. I know know, it wasn’t my cup of tea.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours dark brown with an ample amount of tan head. Aroma is malty with some java nuttiness. Taste has some nice chocolate malt flavor with more of the smoky nuttiness as well as some underlying dark fruits. This beer should be rated higher in my opinion.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber from Capone’s, Frank Smith’s, and Craft Ale. Pours hazy mahogany with 3-finger tan head that laces well. Nose is intense earthy notes, hops, vienna malty, brown sugar, nuts. Tastes malty, nutty, with a bog mid-palate hop hit, and a complex and malty finish. This is a top notch brown ale, and the profile is more like an imperial nut brown ale.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle... Pours mostly black with a mid-sized, creamy, lightly-tanned head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is a rich marriage of mocha, toasted nuts and praline. Medium-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor is a bit harsh and biting with alcohol leading off, but it doesn’t entirely discredit the roasty, nutty, praline and caramel components. Finishes bittersweet with a kiss of buttery toffee. Clown Shoes’ big beers don’t drink with the very best of them, but they are a nice, affordable, intoxicating option.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 22, 2012
Location: Bottle from Norm’s shared by jcos, 10/20/12
Aroma: This one has a nose of dark malts, roast, dark fruit, and some bread
Appearance: The pour is dark brown, with a beige head, and heavily spotty lace
Flavor: The taste is fairly malty, roasty, a little nutty, and a little earthy hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has an average carbonation, some astringency, and a lightly dry finish
This one is a decent beer, it feels a bit muddled, but it is definitely decent. I would drink it again for sure, though I felt like it could have been a bit better.

Aroma: Aroma of caramel malt, faint sweet.
Taste: Faint bitterness, caramel malt, faint roast, faint boozyness, maybe a little chocolate on the end.
Palate:Medium body, lingering aftertaste, faint booziness, a little fizz.
Summary: Pretty solid beer, and first beer I’ve had that Brash has contributed to. Solid beer, but nothing really exciting about it.
