3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt aromas of roasted, nutty, milk chocolate and strong coffee, light to moderate pine and resin for the hops, earth for the yeast, with notes of wood and charcoal. Head is average size, fizzy/frothy, beige with a few spots of lacing and is mostly diminshing. color is very dark mahogany. Flavor starts lightly to moderatelt sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a lively to fizzy carbonation and a finish that is chalkt, moderately to heavily alcoholic and has a sticky and black coffee texture. A whoel bunch of malts jump out at the first whiff, then sharp hops follow, then...oof! a whole bunch of bitterness and alcohol.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
This is pretty good. Plenty of hops, no nut flavor. Which is good. Tons of hops yet doesnít seem like ten percent. A little sweet and creamy. Good stuff.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft at Stanziatoís in Danbury, CT. Mix between an imperial stout and a boozy brown ale. Has that distinctive English finish tht youíd expect to find I something like a Sammy smith nut brown ale. Sneakily a 10% brew. Went with pizza. Not an overpowering or overly heavy beer, as itís caramel brown hue would suggest. Clown Shoes is legit.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very solid, bold, yet smooth double brown. Very much like a hoppy imperial IPA but has more caramel/stout/porter flavors going on. Pretty much is a beer that you will love or hate. I think it is pretty good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown black with a large faomy khaki head that slowly fades and shows nice sticky lacing. Aroma has chocolate and earthy floral hops. Taste is pretty nice with chocolate and roasted malt along with a good dose of hops which really give a good fruity spice flavor in the finish. Palate is medium and sticky and finishes dry. I could drink a couple of these, pretty tasty and the alcohol is well hidden.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Prohibition Taproom in Philadelphia, PA.
Pours pitch black and completely opaque with a half finger off-white head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Spotty lacing left behind.
Roasted dark malt aroma with some sweet booze and a subtle hop presence. Very robust smelling with hints of burnt toast, roasted coffee bean, dark chocolate and oatmeal followed by faint earthy pine notes and alcohol.
Medium bodied but slightly thinner than expected with a balance of sweet and roasted malt notes followed by some boozy heat in the finish. Slightly smokey with some coffee bean, dark chocolate and oatmeal flavor countered by sweeter chocolate notes, caramel and toffee. The hop presence found in the nose is absent in the flavor and the strong alcohol heat takes away from the malts. Still, itís well balanced and flavorful. Not bad but could have been great.
